Prescribed wrong drug and failed to notify
Dr. Borman Shoap had been my daughter's pediatrician for 15 years. We trusted her until recently. Last March, 2024 just after my daughter turned 15 she had her annual physical. The appointment counting wait time was 2.5 to 3 hrs. This clinic Fairview at 2535 University Ave SE, Mpls, can be very slow, long wait times, but this was longest. After the appointment it was recommended our daughter be put on birth control, no specific reason provided. We trusted the Dr. About a month later it was brought to our attention through a school councilor that our daughter was having self harming thoughts. Very shortly after that with counseling we found out she had been cutting since before her annual exam. The scars were many and on her arms and legs, impossible to hide if she was examined. The Dr. never notified us of the cutting or any concerns other than some weight loss. Dr. prescribed a med for HRT in menopausal women instead of birth control. The HRT drug is know to cause suicidal thoughts
What went well
  • Appointment wasn't rushed
What could be improved
  • Didn't explain conditions well
  • Long wait times
