I liked Emily Burns, but as time went on, she revealed her need for CONTROL. She cut my fish oil supplements in half saying 4 gms/daily was way too much, something she had no experience with, but which I had been taking for several years to keep my triglycerides down. I took 2 daily, my triglycerides shot up. I rubbed her nose in it. A gall stone passed without pain, but she sent me to a surgeon to have the whole works out, which I politely declined. At 75 I had a serious fall painfully injuring my knees and a foot, unable to drive, she refused to give me a Script to get X-rays in Bethel Park UPMC, but demanded I further injure myself in a six hour bus round trip + hike or go to the ER. When I went to Mercy ER, being close there one day, Mercy infected me with terrible flu for 7 wks & I almost died. She nastily threatened to drop me as a patient when I had canceled, but was left on hold 15 minutes until I hung up. Mismanagement. In- experienced: elder care & issues. Fed up, I left.

I have been a patient with Dr. Burns for over 20 years and I think she is the best PCP you can get. She is warm, personable, listens when you talk, and doesn't over-prescribe. She genuinely cares about her patients. When I have been sick, she has called me at home just to check up on me. This is a great doctor and if you get to see her, you will not regret it.

Was looking for a new PCP. A different doc in the practice had been recommended, but was full. Got passed to Dr. Burns. So glad I got her. She is thorough, explains things clearly at a level I can understand. Neither talks down to me, nor uses technical terms to impress. Is non-pretentious. Does not recommend unnecessary procedures. Was respectful when I declined a med, but persistent in recommending at it each physical. Never get the sense she is rushing. Personable and professional.
