I had high hopes for Barrow and Dr. Ortega given their reputation, but my experience was beyond disappointing. I waited three months for an appointment, drove 3.5 hours, and was seen for maybe 20 minutes in total. Despite being AChR positive with a confirmed MG diagnosis based on thymoma, antibodies, and multiple crises in the past year, I was told not to stop to reschedule and assured they would call to schedule an SFEMG. That was in November, and I still haven’t heard back.To make matters worse, Dr. Ortega outright dismissed the expertise of my oncologist, who has been treating me for the past year and understands the full extent of my condition. Hearing him say he didn’t care what my oncologist thinks was not only shocking but deeply upsetting. As someone struggling with a critical neuromuscular condition, I’m already vulnerable—and this careless disregard for my care team left me feeling completely abandoned. I deserve better.

I had a great experience with him and his team. The facility is clean and they offer free valet parking. The building entrance was easy to navigate and the elevator was a few steps from the door way. I felt at ease to share all of my concerns and left feeling they were addressed.

Barrows Neuro. Dr Ortega
Absolutely the worst! He sat in on a telehealth virtual appointment I had with Dr Chow. My appointment was going well until he showed up on the screen and I had never seen him before? He was negative and I waited for ever while they were in there private counsel off screen? When Dr Chow came back on she basically said that there was really nothing they could do for me? I have been a patient of Barrows for years and Dr Muley was my doctor but he left Barrow's. Dr Chow seemed to be attentive until this Dr Ortega sat in on appointment and he is a very negative person and the whole appointment was very unprofessional. Something is very wrong with Barrow's and Dr Ortega????

Please ignore any great reviews
You should never leave a doctor's office feeling worse than when you came due to your DR not believing you. Ortega made me feel as if I was wasting his time. B/c he didn't treat me, I had a bad episode in front of my child. When I went to him I had labs confirming the diagnosis. He was very dismissive of my symptoms. He said "you probably don't even have it." His demeanor was unprofessional, and not pleasant. Very cavalier & inconsiderate when speaking to me and did not listen to any of my concerns. He kept telling me my symptoms should be worse, as I told him the spasms were painful, & I was having uncontrolled body movements & dangerous torso spasms that can break your ribs. I was shaking and having spasms right in front of him. I asked if it's not Stiff persons syndrome then what could it be? He ignored my question. If you need a movement disorder doctor in AZ go to Dr. Marianne De lima. She treated me the same day with kindness & care.

Dr. Ortega and Barrow neurological are the definition of why our medical system is broken. After putting me through hell for records, he never bothered to read them and told me so to my face. Completely unfamiliar with my chronic illness, he could have found more information by googling it than he displayed. The worst part? He wanted to charge me for unnecessary tests my insurance refused to pay for. This clinic and this doctor are stonewallers not patient advocates. Rosa at the front desk is the rudest scheduler I’ve ever dealt with. Avoid this doctor and this practice at all cost.

I will wait 6 months before he can fit me in to give me results of the tests he ordered. See any other doctor at Barrows. Your health will be jeopardized if you chose him.

Despite Dr. Eric Ortega’s educational achievements and what seemed to be concern about diagnosing my brother’s deteriorating condition, I will never recommend him to anybody. Soonest appointment for an established patient with a rapid functional decline was two months out. Weeks of multiple phone calls to obtain lab results went unanswered. Take your loved one to a neurologist who responds to patient’s requests and shows genuine concern.

It's almost impossible to get an appointment. Mom could barely walk when she started seeing Dr. Ortega. The office took 3 months to see her, and another 3 months to do an MRI! Now they want her to wait another 3 months for Dr. Ortega to go over the results! Avoid this Dr. at all costs!
