Poor communication and lack of understanding.
There was a terrible line of communication. She did not listen to what I was asking, or saying. Her responses were not directed to my issues. There just seemed to be some confusion during the visit. She also told me that she had gone over the scheduled amount of time for my visit and had other patients to see. I had to ask for a test result that she had ordered and was done six months earlier. She didn't discuss it until I asked about it. The office staff made mistakes concerning more than one issue with my care and appointments. I was very surprised and disappointed with my experience with Dr. Erika Herrera.

I tried to like her but couldn’t
I initially liked her and if I had different issues, maybe it would have went well. I felt like she repeatedly blamed me for an orthopedic injury and repeatedly pressured me to have surgery for said injury. It is inappropriate to pressure me to have an elective surgery. Choosing to have surgery is primarily a collaborative decision between the surgeon, my support system, and me. If she was treating me for something like high blood pressure, maybe I could have stayed with her. I will say that she was prompt, on time, and the other staff were nice.

Not trauma informed
This new doctor is friendly, thorough and has great potential. However, she is unfortunately woefully inexperienced in trauma informed care, which resulted in a mentally painful visit for me. If you have past medical trauma, a history of SA or other conditions, her method and mannerism is both triggering and damaging. This can be remedied with training and practice, which I hope she will pursue.

Dr. Herrera is wonderful
Dr. Herrera has always been very compassionate and understanding ever since I started seeing her about a year ago. As a woman, it can be difficult at times to feel heard, however, Dr. Herrera has always made my concerns a priority and taken good care of my health needs. I would recommend her in a heartbeat.

Pushes Psychiatry, Not Medical Help
I just moved into the area and went to Dr. Herrera with a list of previously diagnosed issues or in the process of diagnosing by doctors. One of the first things she asked was if I had been to a psychiatrist. No, I hadn't in a long time. She then proceeded to tell me how all of my medical issues could be psychological. Ok, so the visit started taking a bad turn at tgat point, but if a psychiatrist can help, whatever. I followed up with a request for a referral to a rheumatologist. "Why do you need one? I'm referring you to a psychiastrist" It further escalated and I finally walked out in tears feeling unheard and abused. This approach might help some, but it doesn't help people with chronic issues and was just plain mean and lazy.
