Dr. Esteban Cuartas, MD

Dr. Cuartas performed back surgery on my 80 year old mom 5 years ago, as she was in excruciating pain. my mother is doing very well. By the way Still suffers from arthritis, but she still driving and got her wits to her but thanks to Dr. Cortez. He relieved all her pain. People need to understand Dr. Cortez is a surgeon. He’s not there to put a Band-Aid on your boo-boo. He’s very blunt. He’ll tell you how it is. He’s very serious when it comes to back surgery that’s no joke so I think people take him the wrong way. Thank you Dr. Cuartas for helping my mom.

Seeking treatment for severe lower back pain. Dr. Cuartas asked many questions about my condition. He reviewed my xrays and explained possible remedies. I would recommend him without hesitation.

I had hip surgery, from a fall(i have osteoporosis from steroid use). The surgery was quick and painless, with a very small incision. I was soooo happy!

I only have beautiful things to say about this amazing spine surgeon! After suffering pain for many years, I was told I needed to consult a spine surgeon. I decided to trust my care to Dr. Esteban Cuartas. I met Dr. Cuartas in December 2022, and he performed spine surgery on me on February 2023. He genuinely cares about his patients and it shows. His bedside manner at the hospital was awesome. He kept the nurses on their toes, always making sure I was given the best care. They all have great respect for him. I hope Dr. Cuartas realizes how much he has changed my life. After so many years of being house bound due to constant pain, now I go out and enjoy life to the fullest! I can take walks, cook and care for my family more and finally, after so many years, I am able to walk around the mall with my daughter without pain! All thanks to the skills of this amazing surgeon!

I had an emergency operation for My lower back. The nerves were constricted and I had no movement in one leg and partial in the other. Dr Cuartas was great. Performed emergency surgery late at night and I feel so much better after 2 weeks. The nursing staff at Montifiore St Luke’s. We’re ALL ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

On our first visit, he seemed somewhat interested in what my son was complaining about. He did his routine evaluation for injuries. Got an X-ray at the office and that was all he was going to do because he saw nothing in particular. We had told him the injury was a month old and still hurting so I asked for an MRI. Last week went back for a follow up, and he was not interested. Yawning. Didn’t care to be there. Didn’t believe my son when he told him his pain was a 7/10, so proceeded to press on that area on his spine, where my son winced in pain and said, oh I guess it does hurt. Then he couldn’t give a definitive answer saying it could be gastrointestinal. What?!? Then arthritis but maybe not. Then it inflamed. The report clearly says he has edema on T1! I would never recommend this guy to anyone. I’m going to someone else now. Someone reputable!

I would not recommend Dr. Cuartas... His demeanor is cold and arrogant. When asking him questions, he basically answered with " whatever you want to do. " I was given a script for physical therapy and he basically walked out of the exam room without even a goodbye or an indication that he was done. I'm going to do physical therapy, but I will not be going back to him. I will be cancelling any further appointments.

He was very very rude and very very nasty to and he didn't help me with my neck pain and my problem and he didn't take his time to go over the MRI and the rays with me and my husband from rachel grant

I’m a 53 year old woman that needed a problematic cyst removed from a problematic area of my spine. I’ve never stayed in a hospital, had surgery, or even broken a bone. To say I was anxious was an understatement. Combine that with the fact that I needed surgery immediately and the likelihood of finding a doctor that had availability was daunting. Dr. Cuartes immediately made a surgery time/date available to me. He spent tons of time going over my medical records with me and explaining exactly what was happening to me and what needed to be fixed. I was in the hospital for five days and he stopped in all five days to check on me. Easy to schedule appointments, his staff is super kind, compassionate and friendly, and wait times are very reasonable. Hospital staff also spoke highly of him which put me at ease too. My surgery was a success and although I’m still recovering, everything looks like it will be fine. You can trust this doctor. You’re in good hands.

I wouldn’t recommend this man to anyone. This “doctor” has absolutely no respect for a patient or their pain. He comes without a chart & says he reviewed it before but God forbid he needed to reference or add something to it. He doesn’t know my back story or the fact that I’ve already lost 265 pounds & did it myself . I’m now down to a size 16/18. The first thing he says to me as he rolls up his sleeves and leans against the table/sink area (Trying to look all buff & tough) is “you’re a good surgical candidate but you could never fit on my table”. I said excuse me? I said “how much does your table hold?” And he said 300 pounds and I said I’m nowhere near that. I’m 5’8”. He just kept saying “no, no it’s not a good idea” and said he’d make notes in my chart for the pain management doctor Sanz and for recommendations on weight loss or I should consider baristric surgery. I was never in my life so insulted by anyone. He never even examined me. My health insurance paid him to insult me.

I highly recommend Dr. Cuartas. I was in extreme pain from a herniated disc. The pain went from back all the way down my leg. I couldn't even stand up straight. I was very apprehensive about doing back surgery. He took the time needed to explain the procedure and made me feel very comfortable. I could not have been in better hands and I could not have asked for a better outcome.

Do not go here. Terrible bedside manner and very full of himself. Prioritizes himself and money over the care of his "patients." The facility itself is ok. You feel like they are running you in and out while not being open about what exactly they are doing.

This is about the practice. Awful medical mill. I have a whole list of complaints; They insist on 3 xRays every time they see you, even if the last visit showed you were healed. My dr. of 2 months who had been with the practice for 12 years, Dr. Itingen, has left the practice and they are refusing to give me his contact info. They are insisting I start with a new doctor. Dr Itingen had written a script for me (Valtaren Creme) on my last visit over a month ago and they are refusing it to me.
