I hate getting blood work done, (I have childhood trauma around this specifically) but the staff in Yorba Linda always make it quick and painless and distract me with pleasant conversation.

Office staff was fine, but the provider needs communication training, and I say this as a communication university professor. My health condition means I have a large care team and this doctor will not be part of it. He isn't interested in listening, just filling out his form, which isn't helpful for patients with multiple interrelated conditions, which should describe pretty much all rheumatology patients. He also then asks the personal questions unrelated to the visit in an abrasive interrogative style-like someone told him asking about someone's job and place of residence would be "getting to know" the patient, but certainly not the way he asks the questions. He intentionally used inaccessible medical language/terminology to see if he could trip me up-certainly needs a lesson in the NIH plain language index. He made dismissive comments about other patients, and complained outside the exam room door about my request that he wear a mask. He deals almost exclusively in immune-compromised patients so I don't know how that attitude is acceptable. I also don't know he is with patients that are not highly educated-he seemed determined to talk over my head and seemed annoyed that he couldn't. He also rushed the visit-30 minutes, but made sure to note in his after visit summary that he'd spent 60 minutes with me, presumably so he could bill for that increment. I'm aware that as a research/teaching medical system you often choose doctors for other qualifications, but I would highly recommend that Dr Borozognia take some patient communication courses and work on checking his ego at the door-both for the sake of patients but also students, if he has any teaching responsibilities. I do try to always assume that someone could be simply having a bad day, but it may be symptomatic given that he was the only rheumatologist with open appointments within a 60 day wait time. Everyone else was booked much further out. Could be a relevant data point for you to look at.

Dr. Bozorgnia is a true physician who takes into account the complete health picture of the patient, takes whatever time is needed to discuss what is needed, and treats his patients with respect and kindness. He is not only knowledgeable but caring. UCI is lucky to have him on staff.

So, I didn't really know what a Rheumatologist did. I'm not completely sure that I do now, after having been to him. I was sent to him by my pain specialist and so, like I guess, he, so he's somebody that possibly could help track down the reason for some of my pain. Anyway, so I felt... I felt a little stupid. You know, I definitely felt like, he thought that I knew more than I did, so it just made me feel awkward. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that.

it was just a long wait to get a "stat" referral appointment for a new patient consult, even though I'm an existing UCI patient & referral is from UCI network specialist I understand, but maybe the labs could have been ordered "peer to peer", and results may have been ready for discussion at the appointment (?) It will all work out though...

The doctor always extends his hand for a handshake before he washes his hands. Then he washes his hands for ~ 5 seconds, it's like going through the motions but not thoroughly washing them.
