Dr. Fletcher Matthews, MD

My mom came to Dr. Matthews at 93 years with advanced kidney disease. She received excellent and compassionate care. He meticulously managed and stabilized her health. Mom lived to 100 years and I've no doubt that Dr. Matthews contributed to her longevity.

A few years ago I moved to Virginia from upstate New York. I had been seeing a wonderful kidney doctor in Syracuse on a regular basis and was doing very well at stage 3. Needing a nephrologist in Virginia I made an appointment with Dr. Mathews. Going over my records he told me I was going to need dialysis. I knew that was impossible as I had just recently had a check up and blood work done before I moved. That was my first and last time with this doctor. I'm still doing fine and no dialysis.

Pompous, assumptive, mean, judgmental man. Dreadful bedside manner. Barely read my labs and then jumped to conclusions. After describing my symptoms, he should have known to refer me to a different specialist. Had to perform my own online research to uncover what specialist to see next. I would never recommend him to anyone.

He prescribed me medication to treet high blood pressure

I have been treated by Dr. Matthews for over a year. I could not ask for a better Nephrologist. He is real concern about my kidneys and want me to be on the right medication for my problems. I would recommend him to anyone. He is VERY GOOD. . 2/2018

Dr. Matthews has been my doctor for quite a while. He has been great. Would highly recommend him to anyone. I had surgery a few months back and after finding out I was in the hospital he came to see me everyday and if he felt I needed additional care he ordered that care for me. I am now facing more surgery and I know I can rely on him to follow up on me. My family also met him and they were impressed with hm. Glad I have him as one of my doctors.

I hope Dr.mathews works out to be a good thing..my first app. Today and im not sure how to gauge his reactions about my past info on my kidneys that was wrong info from my old doctors years back..hm??mmm..anyway the staff was extreamly nice and never seen such kindness in my life from a doctors office .anyway ' i hope he finds nothing wrong ..then i won't have to worry about going back..he was nice until the end of the visit when i thanked him and said by he looked at the floor and said nothing

Excellent nephrologist. Outstanding bedside manner, highly knowledgeable. Hands down, the best nephrologist in the Roanoke area. Friendly and comfortable to be around. Staff is wonderful as well!

To go to physician for high blood pressure. I am grateful for Dr. Matthews honesty and directness. Follow his recommendations! . He is brilliant and excellent kidney specialist in Southwest Virginia. We need a living Hippocrates in Southwest Virginia.

AMAZING. I have been a nephrology (kidney) patient for 30 years and now I feel that I have a Dr. who takes an interest in me. Not Going Anywhere Else!

I personally would highly recommend Southwest Virginia Nephrology- Dr. Fletcher Matthews, as I feel like a person not a number. I have been with another nephrology group in the valley and the care and treatment with that group could not compare.

Dr. Matthews has gotten my blood pressure lowered when no one else could. I have been very pleased with the care I have received.
