Worse than not seeing a Dr at all
I saw Dr. Alba as a follow up to a lithotripsy procedure during pregnancy. I've seen her 3 years in a row, and all the appointments were useless. Tests not ordered in time to be done for the appointment, she doesn't believe ultrasound shows kidney stones (then WHY did she order it, every year), won't give dietary recommendations, or medications, tells you to just drink more water. Doesn't return emails or calls, felt completely ignored and disrespected during appointments. My first appt with her I had to ask her if she had the right file because what she was saying was SO contradictory to what the surgeon had said. Didn't feel ureter scarring was an issue because the surgeon didn't note injury in the surgery notes. I have staghorn calculi, shaped like goat heads, there IS NO passing them without injury and scarring. Unconcerned for multiple cysts in both kidneys, refused to refer to nephrologist for concern of polycystic kidney disease.

We waited to see her personally on a recommendation by another respected physician. She and her staff could have not have been more patient and kind. The waiting room might have been overflowing, but Dr. Alba's staff and assistants kept everyone happy with the thought that they would probably leave UNM Urology with the hope and solutions for their problems. People knew that their time was an investment in waiting to see the best Albuquerque had to offer in a Urology Department. We had the same compassionate care when we had a follow up appointment at the cancer center with Dr. Alba and her resident.

I'd like to write a good review for Dr. Alba. I've been a cancer patient of hers for years and would never want to see another. She's always provided excellent care. I looked at some of the things written below and would like to say that those things are not at all true about her character, bedside manner or professionalism. I imagine for some patients, there’s diseases and conditions that don’t have a cure/fix/easy answer. Medicine, and especially the medical system, isn’t a perfect science and it doesn’t mean that the doctor is not a good one. But for people to say horrible things about her without of any context is completely unfair and should not be used as the basis for choosing a doctor. People forget what doctors have had to go through this past year with COVID. They have not had the luxury of working from home and they put themselves and their families at risk every day. I salute Dr. Alba and ALL heath care providers. You’re only human, but you’re my hero!

Please take these reviews seriously! She scheduled my father for two tests two weeks ago. The second test did not go well and Dr Alba stopped it half way through. Did not talk to my father after that appointment and so far has has not called or answered numerous calls for information/next steps etc from my father and our family. My father has been weak ever since the tests and has been to the ER multiple times due to UTI from the catheter he has. He cannot get rid of the catheter until Dr Alba ANSWERS HER PHONE!!!!!

I would never recommend this so called doctor to anyone. Not only is she a horrible doctor, but a horrible person. She is insulting and looks down on people even in the midst of their worst nightmare of cancer.
