Great Neurologist, extremely thorough!
I’ve been seeing Dr. Shu for a little over a year now and I’ve seen several neurologists over the past 2 decades. She is very thorough and also is a great partner to have as a physician. She listens to what you want and you work together as a team to accomplish that as your healthcare goal.

Exceedingly poorly run office
Dr Shu herself was very thorough. We felt very confident in her. However, the office “lost first set of labs” then reportedly wrote incorrect order for second set. Neither time were we notified. Only after spending hours navigating phone tree and waiting for call backs that did not come requiring more calls did we find out about the errors. Ironically we were trying to find a practice more convenient than UTSW. If this was an issue that required ongoing office visits would never stay. It is too bad that an excellent Dr practice can be ruined by the such a poorly run office. I understand this is run by Baylor Scott and White. Do better BSW.

Dr. Shu is thorough. After years of terrible doctors. Dr. Shu wanted a full neurological work up.

One of the best Neurologists out there
Dr. Shu is one of the best Neurologists I have seen and that's saying something. She has great bedside manner, she is very thorough, and always has multiple approaches. She is also willing to go the extra mile to make sure insurance covers necessary treatments. Without her care, I would be much worse off. I am blown away by some of these reviews as they don't reflect Dr. Shu in the slightest. She quickly climbed the totem poll and is very well recognized for her achievements over the past few years.

Do not recommend for pots
I have had so much trouble with Dr. Shu, she's impossible to reach when you need her and has made multiple errors in my care. I did find her to have a kind and caring demeanor when speaking one on one, but she has been completely unhelpful if not detrimental to my pots care.

a doctor that doesn't care
facing a life-threatening situation, Dr Shu couldn't have been much less helpful. Maybe she is a good doctor, I don't know. What I do know is that her neglect made a terrible situation even worse. I was forced to go elsewhere for help and got it immediately.

Dr. Shu ordered a large number of tests but did not advise me how many tests she was ordering or how much they would cost. Then I received a bill for lab tests that was about $4500! Even after insurance, the tests total more than $1700. I have never had a doctor at UCLA or anywhere else order that many tests or fail to warn me about matters that might be expensive. Nor have any lab tests I've had in the past even remotely cost so much. Unless you are a lottery winner, you should stay clear of this doctor. All the more so since her medical counsel did not help me improve my condition.

Lacks compassion, always late (>1 hour), and not knowledgeable about POTS. I did not feel like she really listened, and I felt like she was judging me for all of my symptoms. I question her knowledge about dysautonomia, because what she told me contradicts a lot of the information you can find on Dysautonomia International (which I think is a trustworthy source). As of early 2020, the fellow she was training was incompetent. He was the kind of person who looks at your labs, says you're fine, and that you just need to see a psychologist. If you're looking for a POTS doctor, I encourage you to keep searching.

I went to visit Dr. Shu who was such a warm and caring doctor, and she had a great sense of humor! My chest pain resolved 30 minutes after I took the medication prescribed by Dr. Shu. She made me feel like she's my friend. I would love to say she's the kindest doctor I have ever met! Thank you, Dr. Shu, so very much for all your kind efforts. I really highly appreciate you!

No bedside manner and treated me like a robot. She gave No explanation. Only apologized after seeing me cried from one of the needles that she poked (without any warning) during an EMG. I had blood at 2 different places on my arm from the needles that she poked. She didn't even see it until I pointed out to her. Today, I still have a bruise from the EMG that she performed 11 days ago....seriously. Had I visited this website before seeing her, I would have canceled my appointment.
