Dr. Funke was in the cath lab in 2013, while another cardiologist performed a heart cath on my dad at MUSC. An artery was ruptured during that catheterization, which obviously required immediate surgery by the cardiothoracic surgeon on call. The surgeon did not give us much hope that my dad would pull through after that surgery, and he was in ICU for a couple of weeks. While the cardiologist who was performing the catheterization never came back to my dad's room to check on him during his hospital stay, Dr. Funke came by many times just to check on him and see how he was doing....even on Thanksgiving day when he was going to be frying a turkey for his family for the first time! That was 7 years ago. My dad is doing well, and Dr. Funke made a lasting impression as a very compassionate and caring physician.

This dear man, who is my fourth cardiologist over the years, has proven himself to e a compassionate, honest, caring and well educated doctor. He eases my fears, encourages me and has taken me from being a fearful patient who routinely cancelled appts out of panic to someone who looks forward to seeing him. That is saying something...

I was in bad shape with 98% blockage in 2 places in my right coronary artery and this wonderful man walked into my hospital room and told me he didn't even know how I was still walking around took me to the treatment room and saved my life. A couple of months later I was having problems again and turns out I was in the group who have blockage again after receiving stents again he cleaned out the problem. He has the most tremendous bedside manner and you can tell by talking to him that he cares.

Dr. Funke took over my cardiology care immediately after I was given CPR and moved to ICU. I remember nothing of that week as I clung to stay in the world of the living. Dr. Funke saved my life. Under his continued care, I have regained a tremendous amount of heart function. He is thorough with his care and testing, makes things easy to understand and never rushes my appointments. Dr. Funke is a compassionate man, dedicated to his patients. I trust him with my thankful heart.

The attention to care given by Dr. Funke and his staff has been exceptional. Dr. Funke gave my diagnosis priority. He sought follow up care with other specialists to counteract my other health issues. He actually listened to my concerns.
