The best
Dr. Burghen was my endocrinologist 40yrs ago for Diabetes 1. He was very straight to the point, no sugar coating, but we preferred that. I read the other review stating he was racial, rude n condescending, but they read his personality wrong n he never apologized for telling you what's best. If he thought you weren't sticking to his directions, he'd tell you up front.. no sugar coating. He was on top of the latest studies and always let us know what was worth trying vs what wasn't. I saw him till I was 25, even though he only sees kids. At 50yrs old, I still wish he was my dr.

Dr. Burghen was the primary care physician for our son Mark from the age of 6 years old to 21. Mark had a rare disease, diagnosed only by Dr. Burghen after he had been seen by a multitude of doctors. The diagnosis: Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome; a combination of hypoparathyroidism, Addison's Disease, pernicious anemia, alopecia, flatulance, and mucocutaneous candidiasis. At that time, Dr. Burghen had experience with treating only one other child who had the same problems and the child lived to the age of 21. This was a treatable, life-threatening disease and required a lot of medication that amounted to over $500 a month, with multiple admissions into the ER and LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, trying to keep his electrolytes in balance. Dr. Burghen would pull out his calculator and evaluate the doses Mark needed according to his weight, symptoms and bloodwork. We lost Mark in 2016 when he was 39. There is no doubt that Mark lived that long because of Dr. Burghen.
