Thanks to Dr Valez and Dr Brusie I still have my eyesight. I was referred to Dr Valez by other doctors who told me they would go to her if they needed the care and attention I required. I have on occasion waited for what seemed like a long time but realized after visiting other offices that the wait was typical. My opinion, she is a talented and caring doctor and is worth the wait. She’s aware of the attacks and has worked hard to improve the patient experience. Those who seek to diminish her and Dr Brusie should think twice about the harm they are doing.

Former patient
Long, long wait times, no matter when you go. Girl at front desk is rude. Tried to talk with her husband, Dr Brusie and he just turned his back to me. They don’t respect your time.

Dr. Velez review
Dr. Velez is always very caring and thorough. She cares deeply about her patients and their eyesight. I like the way she gives the shots, they don't hurt, but aren't overly numbed. She keeps me informed of my progress. I would, and have recommended her to others.

She is a fantastic doctor who puts her patients first. You only have one set of eyes and you can trust her to make sure you get the best treatment. I wouldn’t go to anyone else.

Emergency
Dr Velez saw me as an emergency. My dog scratched my eye. Left claw marks on my eyeball. She fit me into a very very busy day for her. I am thankful and grateful because I was in so much pain. I am on the mend and couldn't be happier she fit me in.

Waste of time
HORRIBLE SERVICE I made my appointment on time — arrived early and still waited an hour never getting seen because I had to return to work and they said it would be another 1–2 hours. What type of eye exam is a 3 hour wait when you are on time for your appointment. Lost wages for me and my husband what an inconvenience and waste of time. Don’t worry about being on time for your appointment here it’s going to be first come first serve regardless — and they take their time I could hear convos about lunches and pets going on — like do your job and move on to the next patient people have things to do

If you need an eye exam, try Costco.
Other than Jonathon, who politely and efficiently checked me in, this place was a bad experience. I waited 1.5 hours and still didn't see a doc. I had to walk out. I repeatedly asked if it was likely I'd be out of there by 1:00 (appt was for 10:45), but all I heard was "I don't know." I'm trying Costco. They may not be the best, but I bet they can put me in glasses until I find a doctor who sees patients instead of just charging them. These people are only in it for the money. Patients deserve more.

Wonderful doctor; very patient oriented, lots of experience. Waiting time is minimal, length of total visit usually not over 2 hours. Great results in her having resolved my eye problem. Would highly recommend Dr. Valez to anyone needing eye care.

scheduled 1.5 hours for an appointment, after sitting in the waiting room for 30 minutes I told them I only had 1-hour left. They responded that they couldn't complete my exam in 1 hour so I rescheduled. I scheduled for the first appointment of the day weeks later and was told they would 'fast track' me. When I arrived there was one person in the waiting room. During the 40 minutes I sat in the waiting room 4 more patients arrived and were seen before me. When I was finally called they told me it would take another 90-minutes for my exam and that the doctor was in the office and, in fact never arrived until 90-minutes after the time they scheduled my appointment. I respect Dr. Brusie but need to find a physician who respects their patients and their time.

I had a partial retinal detachment in one eye and a full detachment in the other. Dr. Velez saved my vision and I made a full recovery. Very talented surgeon. It can take some time in the office waiting on appointments, but she is worth the delays.

I highly recommend Dr. Velez. She has a lot of compassion, very skilled and top notch in her field. I see her for injections for Diabetic Retinopathy. She came in on a weekend right before a trip and saved my sight due to a blood vessel bleed behind my eye. She sees multiple high risk patients every day for various steroid injections to prevent blindness. She is on call 24 hours a day since there very few specialists in her field unless you go to Mass Eye and Ear.

I have been seeing this physician for multiple eye conditions for the last 6 years. I have talked with other people that have gone to other eye specialists in the area. Be it Boston or Worcester, most of them tell me of multiple trips to various facilities. Because the various diagnostic eye exams needed to evaluate their condition are not available at those specialists in just 1 visit. Dr. Velez’s office has multiple eye exam diagnostic capabilities located in her office. As a result of these capabilities, the wait in the waiting room can appear to be long. I like the fact that all my eye diagnostic testing is done in one location, I don’t have to chase down test results every few weeks.. I also appreciate her flexibility to get me back into her office schedule. When my health has intruded with my regular appointments. I like being able to get all diagnostic exams needed in one office visit. Where as multiple appointments and travel would be too difficult to manage with the rest

This was my fourth and last visit to Dr. Velez. I was referred to Dr Velez for an epiretinal membrane a bit over a year ago. Visit 1 Well over 2 hrs. Likely qualify for surgery. Return 6 months Visit 2 Well over 2 hrs. Dr said I qualified for surgery and spoke about her skill and the quality of her facility. Turns out it is risky so I asked for 2nd opinion 2nd Opinion by a highly regarded Boston Dr (1 hr drive each way): Advised not to risk surgery at this stage. 30 minutes in and out. Visit 3 Well over 2 hrs. Waiting room packed with others in the same situation Visit 4 50 minutes after my appointment the Dr still not in the building. Waiting room packed with patients with earlier appointments. I left and complained. Office called and said they would put me to front of line. I left no doubt with the (unfortunate) caller how immoral I thought this was. I will drive an hour each way to Boston and still save time and have more confidence in my Dr's recommendations.

Great experience from when I called the office to being checked it to the technicians that started the process. When I did get to see the doctor it was like I was her only patient. Spent more time with me and spoke to me with lingo I could understand. Her calmness and demeanor was unreal. Highly recommend her.

Had to get a quick appmt with a specialist due to my fathers sight in his left eye. It was hard for him to open and see clearly from it. Dr Velez staff fit him in the same day we called. We are very grateful for the prompt attention we both received when we got there. Thank God for this doctor. Although his problem wasn't as severe as we anticipated she explained what it was and put our fears aside. She is not only a wonderful human being but so brilliant in this field. Totally recommend her.

Dr Velez was the most pleasant experience I have had in several years. I took my mother to the same type Dr in Worcester and the experience was not a pleasant one. I am forever grateful that Dr Velez was able to fit my mom in even though she was booked solid and took the time and effort to put our fears and stress to a minimum. If anyone needs a retinal specialist please don't hesitate in calling her. Staff and office was very professional. Although you might have a long wait its worth it.

I recently had an emergency surgery for a detached retina. While I can say that no emergency surgery is fun, it was a wonderful experience. Within 24 hours as a never before seen patient, I was seen, diagnosed and surgically treated. From the receptionist, technicians, surgery nurses, staff and certainly Dr. Velez I was treated with great care and professionalism. I have full faith that the decisions made were technically sound and in my best interest. Deepest gratitude to all!
