He’s a GREAT doctor, been going over 20 years, that’s why I stay even though my appointments are constantly rescheduled and canceled. I think he just overloads on patients and doesn’t have enough time for all of them. The office front desk are really nice to, I just don’t like the constant cancellation of appointments

Never in Office
I haven't seen Dr. Mattingly for 8 months. Now my scheduled appointment has been pushed back 3 more months! Again the reason why is he won't be in the office. Often appointments are cancelled and rescheduled. I need to see my doctor on a regular basis, not once a year. If I call and he's not in the office, I have to deal with my illness without him, because the staff can't help me. This happens on a regular basis. He's been a good doctor to me when he sees me. Problem is, he doesn't have the time to see me.

Mattingly's Ego Eclipses Ability to Help Patients
I was a patient for 5 years, during which my mental health went from so-so to a steaming heap of garbage. I always communicated my symptoms and was compliant with treatments but things only worsened. Looking back, it was clear he never listened to me and was treating a version of me that existed only in him mind. He needed to be right and to understand patients better than they do themselves, allowing him to be a savior and source of comfort. To him I was "high-functioning" and not like other bipolar patients. He prescribed a harmful dose of stimulants and when I complained about side effects, he raised the dose more. During our last visit, we argued about my depression/suicidal intent. In his condescending/comforting tone, he said, "You're fine. Take a walk and be grateful. Look at how much you've accomplished." A few weeks later I was admitted to psych ward. Appts were hard to schedule/cancelled frequently. Rx/refill issues common. Office hard to reach. Do not recommend this Dr!!!

Not impressed with my experience with Dr. Mattingly the last few years. I meet with him (or at least try to) at least once a year, but each and EVERY time I schedule an appointment 2-3 months ahead of time, a WEEK before the appointment, it gets canceled. When I speak with someone to reschedule, I have to wait ANOTHER 2-3 months. To top it off, the wait time is sometimes about an hour after my scheduled time and when he finally meets with me, the appointment takes 5 minutes and he spends 4 of those minutes just writing his notes. I don't feel as I benefit at all from his meetings and I've been trying to look elsewhere for a new Psychiatrist.

I feel he is a decent doctor but he is very hard to get in touch with. He’s the only one who can help (tried in past to talk to other doctor in the office - no go) but doesn’t offer an exchange number or any kind of messaging system to get in touch with him. So if he’s out of the office, you’re out of luck. The office staff isn’t the greatest either. I sat on hold (2nd caller) for 20 minutes, then 1st caller for 30 minutes and finally gave up. And it’s not even their lunch hour yet. They might have been closed but the message system didn’t note that. With COVID and how it’s affecting peoples’ mental health, you’d think they’d be open longer than 4 hours a day.

My family member has received nothing but excellent care here. They have been a patient for decades. This Dr encouraged them to return to work ,increase their education and reach their full potential. He is probably the only reason my family member has made a full recovery and will continue to thrive. He is compassionate and possesses the keen ability to motivate his patients to recovery. Thank You ,Dr Mattingly.

I have been seeing Dr. Mattingly for some time (7 years). It has been increasing difficult to see him. Medicine is a business. His research is very important, and if he wants to do research, teach and do clinical trials, wonderful. Personally, he's a nice guy and when you can get his attention a good doc. But I think his practice now is only there to feed his research, and not for long term patients.

Recently, the appointments become less frequent due to cancellations and the office visit itself is less than 10 minutes. This is unacceptable and I am in the process of changing. I don't come in to just chat, I am sick. A year ago, I would have recommended everyone, today, no one at all.

I think Dr. Mattingly is stretched too thin. I agree that appointments are consistently cancelled. When I scheduled visits, I didn't even check my calendar because I knew there was a 95% chance it would be rescheduled, anyway. Appointments were always running behind. I tried early morning times and he was late to those, too. The office staff chuckled and said he was late every morning. So why offer those hours? Appointments were quick and superficial.

Dr. Mattingly is the only psychiatrist able to correctly treat our son. As physicians we highly recommend him. With his help we were able to keep our son at home and have him mentally stable. In addition, when I became sick with fibromyalgia and CFS, he was the only Dr. who comprehended the pain and was open to cutting edge treatments to improve quality of life.

Took my child in for her initial visit. Was trying to relate background information and history to Dr. Mattingly. He talked over me the whole time rather than listening. Prescribed my daughter a new medication, to which she had an adverse reaction. When I called the office back to let them know, the staff said they would get back with me. Called back to say the Dr. wanted her to continue the medicine even though she was having a reaction to it. We discontinued the med and the Dr.

I would love to give a stellar review to this office. If they would stop canceling my son's appointments, perhaps I could. So far, 2 appointments cancelled. The 2nd was a reschedule from the 1st. Next available appointment is March. Absolutely disspointing and aggrevating, to say the least.

Dr. Mattingly is a nice caring man. The help not so much. Doctor added Abilify to my son’s meds. He had a bad reaction. I called to let the doctor know. They said they would call back after talking to him. I had to call again. Someone finally called back. The call dropped. I thought they would call right back. No. I called and they were closed. Called again today and was told the doctor called in a new prescription. Went to pick it up. No prescription. Time is of the essence with mental issues.

I was recently referred by my primary care physician to Dr. Mattingly. When I return for my follow-up visit I will advise her not to refer patients to him in the future. Considering his field of work you would assume that someone reaching out for an appointment would at a minimum receive the courtesy of a return call if for nothing more than to say that he is not taking new patients, if that is the case. I called twice almost 2 weeks ago and never got called back. Poor way to do business

I've been with Dr. Mattingly for over 20yrs. He's been with me through the very worst times and the good times in those 20 yrs. I have a major Depression problem, but with his kindnes and the meds he's tried, and finally found that worked for me, has helped so much. Although I , at first, didn't want to listen. And I found out, if you don't want his gel] don't waste his time. But I knew the help I needed had to come from him. I'd seen too many other Dr.'s who didn't help me. I appreciate him.

Dr. Mattingly is an excellent doctor. I have been his patient almost as long as he has been in practice. He knows his meds and has kept me going through many hard years. Caring, compassionate, cuts to the chase, very reassuring and always upbeat. If he is having a bad day you will never know it. Glad he is my doctor.
