Was scheduled for a colonoscopy (my third) and submitted to a Covid19 test the week before. As customary with colonoscopies, i was on a liquid diet the day before and drank the necessary medication to empty the intestines. On the day of the procedure, after waiting for about an hour, I was called in by the nurse who proceeded to weight me and measure my height. She then went to the back, which I thought was the operating room to tell me that because if my weight they could not fue the procedure in their office, that I had to go to the hospital. I replied that nobody said anything to me when I had the consult with the PA and that I had spent the day before with the preparations. Doctor Calleja wouldn’t even come out to tell me. The nurse said that she was going to tell the Doctor about the PA. She then proceeded to tell me that she would accompany me to register for the hospital colonoscopy. I replied that I would not have anything done by this unprofessional doctor.

My experience with Dr Calleja is terrible. About a year ago my brother 24 years old fully health male suddenly developed extremely elevated liver enzymes. As his older brother I decided to take him to West Kendal Baptist which resulted in a terrible decision. He was admitted for one week, under the care of Gastroenterologist Dr Calleja and his team. The Doctor was never present, he would round early in the morning and showed lack of attention and interest towards my brother and our family. During that week as inpatient in West Kendal Baptist the internal medicine team ran a multitude of test unable to find the etiology of the disorder. The liver enzymes kept increasing and my brothers condition continued to deteriorate. After 6 days Dr Calleja and his team discharged my brother without a final diagnosis, further care or follow up. We were told to wait at home to see if his condition would improve. Dr Calleja and his team failed to understand the gravity of the situation and never refer

I would like to leave my comment about the DR. Calleja and his team of nurses and support staff, especially his secretary. In 5 years of being in this country I had never found a gastroenterologist so competent for my Ulcerative Colitis Disease, which I have suffered for more than 20 years, I had to be on the verge of death to reach the South Miami Hospital (excellent institution) and be cared for by Dr. Calleja, thank you for putting your intelligence and your passion at the disposal of Gastro
