While my prognosis was not very positive initially, and the standard chemo regimen failed for my AML, the salvage therapy which Dr. Rivero recommended put me deeply into remission. Stem cell transplant was recommended, so I was referred to other Baylor oncologists at Houston Methodist where I recognized some of the Fellows from my admissions at St. Luke's. As the AML expert at Baylor St. Luke's, Dr. Rivero is widely respected by his peers, has numerous peer-reviewed publications, advocates strongly for his patients as well as his students, residents and fellows, and eats sleeps and breathes oncology. I could not recommend him more highly. As I am also a physician, I find his joyous enthusiasm for his vocation inspiring.

The best hands down! He’s caring, extremely smart and willing to think outside the box. He saved my husband’s life. I’m forever grateful.

Elderly patients are not lab rats or $ makers...The appropriate approach, if any, should depend primarily on three clinical and biological factors: ? Severity of the patient’s cytopenia. ? Degree of leukemic progression (% marrow blasts). ? Patient’s age. These factors, in turn, are reflected in the IPSS [46] previously described. The main goal in the elderly patient should be to do no harm
