What stood out about Dr. Westin is that he read my long medical history and knew just about everything I had gone through. He reviewed it with me and also asked me for even deeper details. Came in well prepared for my first visit with him. Kind doctor.

Very dismissive and disorganized
I was referred to Dr. Westin last year for iron deficiency secondary to Crohn's disease. He resisted treating it but due to the request of my gastroenterologist relented. Fast forward to November 2022, the severe iron deficiency has returned and my doctor insisted I see Dr Westin again. He walked into the room, dismissively announced I was not anemic and to come back in 6 months. I quickly explained that we know I am NOT anemic but I am severely iron deficient and that my gastroenterologist stated it was very important for me to get an iron infusion. He seemed very confused as if he had no idea what I was talking about. The nurse showed him something on the laptop he held and then he reluctantly agreed to an infusion. Nevertheless, he seemed very dismissive and completely unaware of why I was there in the first place. It was perhaps one of the most awkward and unimpressive doctor visits in my life.

The CEO of UCBC switched me to Dr. Westin to evaluate rare netabolic conditions b/c of his background with Mayo. On the first visit Dr. Westin left me waiting until closing, then asked me, "who are you waiting for?" Unprepared. He ordered tests I needed, but orders were wrong. Had to repeat MRI. Multiple staff members kept calling with different answers, saying "you need to come back in to discuss this with Dr. Westin" but then he would reschedule my appointment so I couldn't. Tried to pressure me into running sensitive lab tests incorrectly, against recommended protocol. When I questioned him he derided me for being "frustrated." Dr. Westin seems to interpret life altering, disabling symptoms as trivial, emotional or hormonal (aka female so nothing is really wrong.) No curiousity or concern about how symptoms impact your life and ability to function. Dr. Westin did not demonstrate to me the updated medical knowledge, character traits or work ethic needed to evaluate my condition.
