I have multiple rare genetic disorders and was referred to him for assistance with abdominal lipomas. Because of my rare disorders, I gladly educate doctors and contribute to documentation to help future patients like me get good care. He took pictures of me in undress on his personal phone without my consent, THEN told me he wouldn’t help me. He seemed sympathetic, but I definitely got the feeling that he took the pics quickly and waited to tell me “no”. He was interested in my novelty, but brushed off my attempts to educate him. It was objectifying, humiliating, and I felt used and stripped of my dignity. Those of us with rare diseases, especially multiple ones, go through enough. I walked into that office with the knowledge that tumors were weighing me down, crushing and effecting my breathing, and starting to affect my heart functioning. As they grow, I am dying. And to be treated with such a cavalier attitude, disrespected, as though I was a circus freak? All he had to do was ask.
