Neck surgery for herniated disc
12 years ago I herniated my C6-7 disc causing a lot of constant pain and marked atrophy of my right triceps muscle. Dr. Deen looked at my MRI and said “I think this disc fragment is lateral enough I can remove it posteriorly.” I’m an anesthesiologist in practice for 25 years at the time and I had only seen that operation a handful of times. I asked “how often have you done that surgery?” “About 200 times”. Posteriorly meant on neck fusion and no hardware so I went with his suggestion. I woke pain-free, went home the next morning (could have gone home immediately) and 12 years later (knock on wood) still never a problem. Thank you Dr. Deen!!

Great Surgeon
13 years ago he gave me my life back. I had lumbar fusions with hardware. Everything has held up as well as can be expected. Now I’m looking down the barrel of 4 more fusions in my neck. I truly wish I had the resources to see him again.

I drove 650 miles one way for my visit with Dr Deen. He spent about 5 minutes with me and was literally rushing me out of his office while I was asking questions and voicing concerns. I had been dealing with him/Mayo over 4 months and still have no relief or treatment plan. Scheduling and communication is terrible. Dealing with them has been the worst dealings I have ever had with a medical provider. They leave you to your own devices. I'm sick to death knowing I let go this long.
