Great surgeon! Would absolutely recommend him!
Got our daughter in within two weeks, took his time explaining and talking about everything. Called after office hours to check on us, kept reassuring us, called us while out of town to check in concerned about her. Came in at 10pm to check in while in the PICU very reassuring and comforting in a surgeon. Would absolutely recommend him to someone. Forever thankful for him taking great care of her.

Second opinion
Dr Meltzer was QUICK to tell us our daughter had a tethered cord and needed surgery to release it or she would never walk. After getting a second opinion days later we learned she did NOT have a tethered cord and would NOT need surgery. We just recently had our 2 year check up with the second opinion and after another MRI she 100% does NOT have a tethered cord. After telling Meltzer that we were getting a second opinion he personally called me and said “I hope you never need me” and hung up on me. Very very unprofessional. We were left in a waiting room for 4 hours after he “forgot” about us. Will never recommend Meltzer to another soul. Trust your gut, get a second opinion.

Operated on me as a kid
Love Dr. Meltzer. He removed a benign brain tumor that was causing me to experience grand mal seizures when I was 9. 25 years later and I’m doing great. Thanks, Doc!

He didn’t rush to make the decision about surgery. Instead, his team contacted others to get opinions on what would be the best option for my son. I still feel confident that he’s the best and saved my son. He will walk you through pros/cons before doing any procedures. I felt/feel very comfortable and happy with him being my son’s neurosurgeon. Wait is never long. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. All around a great experience and my son was a very difficult little guy!

Dr. Meltzer has a great "bed-side" manner. He spoke kindly and seemed concerned about the health of my son. However, he recommended surgery for my son and I felt rushed to make this decision. Upon requesting a second opinion from a doctor outside of WVU Ruby Memorial in Morgantown WV, Dr. Meltzer refused to refer my son to Cincinnati's Children's Hospital. He wanted us to get a second opinion from one of his colleagues at WVU. He stated that WVU has many qualified surgeons. I believe his ego got in the way of providing the best care for my son. I wanted an independent review of my son's condition. My son's pediatrician referred us to Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the doctor there disagreed with Dr. Meltzer's insistence to have surgery now. My son will be monitored each year with an MRI and surgery will only be done if he develops symptoms. I feel that Dr. Meltzer's desire for money outweighs his desire to do what is best for his patients. In my opinion, he is unethical.
