He didn't tell me things that he should have about my health, he made a decision about my treatment plan - told me I didn't need chemo at this time, didn't tell me I still had cancer in my neck, put in my file that I denied chemo treatment !

Would not recommend
I saw Dr Shawa a few times and did not care for his bedside manner. He was dismissive about my health concerns & actually scared me into believing I may have lung cancer, saying that he has seen lung cancer in patients with my symptoms. Why would a Dr say that to a patient without actual medical data, test results? If I did/do ever get diagnosed with lung or any type of cancer I would hope for a kinder approach when told. He told me that he recommended biopsy of my lymph nodes in my neck & I told him I wanted to sleep on it & get back to him the following week, after all it was my decision as the patient, right? My family member was with me & he and the Dr coerced me into the biopsy (it was a Friday afternoon & the office had very few patients). It all turned out well for me, biopsy confirming Hashimoto’s diagnosis. When I asked what could be done to help me feel better , was told nothing & that the thyroid would eventually have to come out.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Shawa today and it was like a breath of fresh air. First of all I sat in the waiting room for less than a minute. My previous doctor left the practice (retired I think), and I hadn’t been to their office in a few years. He actually read my chart from a few years ago before coming in the room and I was shocked that he actually knew my medical information. He listened to everything I had to say, and I can be known to ramble. I didn’t feel rushed at all. He seemed genuinely concerned about my issues and he explained everything clearly. I have never left a review on a doctor before, but he was exceptional.

I just came to this website to get Dr. Shawa`s phone number and I was stunned by the reviews posted. Why? These reviews are highly polarized. He is getting either 5 stars or 1 star. I can think of several reasons why this is happening. We see every day on TV how radicalized, as a nation, we have become. Therefore, I am choosing the funny side of it all to explain what I see. It is hard to be an endocrinologist and have to deal with people`s mood swings daily. Good mood, 5 stars; bad mood, 1 star. Dr. Shawa stabilized my life. For me, he is 5 stars all the way!!! It is great that I am not forgetting to take my medication, otherwise, he would certainly get just one star ;-)

I was initially hesitant to see Dr. Shawa after reading his poor reviews, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and meet with him. The first appointment went well enough and Dr. Shawa said that he thought my thyroid was not causing all of my issues and mentioned testing my adrenals. I looked up the symptoms of adrenal diseases and saw that one of the symptoms was hyperpigmentation of certain areas of the body - something that I had noticed on my body a year prior. I made sure to mention this at my next appointment. When I told Dr. Shawa about patches of hyperpigmentation, and offered to show him the spots on my arms and toes, he was dismissive and didn't even look at these VISIBLE patches of hyperpigmentation. He then proceeded to tell me to go see a psychiatrist. In my personal experience, meeting with Dr. Shawa was a complete waste of my time, money, and energy. 100% would NOT recommend Dr. Shawa to friends, family, or strangers.

I've seen Dr.Shawa twice now and I found him to be very friendly, pleasant, and thorough. He took time to listen and I never felt rushed as is often the case with doctors these days. He has helped me, and I would see him again. The office staff are very nice and I've never waited for more than a few minutes.

Dr. Shawa was extremely thorough and thoughtful in my daughter’s evaluation. She needed a biopsy of a thyroid cyst and he explained the process and made sure she was comfortably through the entire biopsy. I could not be happier with his bedside manner or medical investigation.

Dr.Shawa explained in detail what my 14 year old daughter's situation was so that she could understand. He performed two biopsies on her and was gentle and highly professional. During both visits we were taken in within five minutes of arriving. The desk staff and nurses were terrific. We will go again if needed.

He was very rude and dismissive. I understand that I have a difficult medical history and that the topics are personal but he made it no easier to discuss and was downright insulting. Never, never, never would I recommend him.
