Dr. Heather Macdonald
Dr. Macdonald performed a lumpectomy for my breast cancer surgery. Prior to my surgery, Dr. Macdonald clearly described, to husband and I, my specific cancer diagnosis and the various options available and listened to our concerns. During my surgery, the tumor was found to be larger than originally thought and she took the time to completely remove the entire tumor with clean margins. I am extremely pleased with my surgical outcome.

Alarm Bells
While Dr. Macdonald spent a lot of time explaining my situation, she indicated the incorrect area, and size of tumor. She also seemed surprised to see a 'mole' (her term), which was actually the site of the recent biopsy she ordered. Additionally, she started to recommend procedures which are contraindicated by my ongoing medical issues. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but her confusion set off alarm bells for me.

Dr. MacDonald is a very personable, caring doctor who explains everything clearly and gives you her full attention. I have a very extensive family history of breast cancer and wasn't sure which path to take for preventative care. Dr. MacDonald gave me all the options and never pressured me in any direction. Once I made up my mind to have a double prophylactic mastectomy, she supported me every step of the way and even spoke on my behalf to insurance so they would cover the surgery. I am greatly indebted to her and I truly wish there were more care providers like her.

Probably the best doctor I have ever had. I see her at the Hoag High Risk Clinic and have been her patient for two years. She performed my double mastectomy last June and I see her every 6 months for follow up/surveillance. I've never had a more attentive, empathetic and caring doctor than Dr. MacDonald. She's the best. You're in very good hands.

I went to Dr. MacDonald for breast cancer surgery. She spent a lot of time with me but was a horrible doctor. She got to my surgery two hours late and then proceeded to terrify me telling me she would get me up and walking right away and then send me home. A month later I developed a terrible infection and went to see her and she said she would take a photo and send it to the plastic surgeon. She never gave me an antibiotic and had no sense of urgency about my situation. I then went back for an ultrasound of the infected area and fluid was found. In her cavalier attitude she said she would contact the plastic surgeon to see if he wanted to drain the area but she didn’t think he would find it necessary. I left the office and when I got home she called and said the plastic surgeon wanted to drain the fluid and culture it to see what type of infection was there. She apologized profusely with the lame excuse of “I just never thought about doing that”.

It is a disgrace to have Dr MacDonald to practice medicine. She did not catch my cancer for a couple of years, dismissed my concerns and wanted to send me to family doctor instead. She blamed everything on my anxiety and made me feel stupid. She only ordered tests on one side of the breasts and it turned out my cancer was on the other side of the breast. I’m glad city of hope found my cancer that she missed. I’m shocked to see she claimed herself as a brca specialist. Please do not see this doc

I called in March to schedule an appt with Dr. McDonald in June. I had to take time off of work and ask my employer months in advance in order to see Dr. McDonald. Her office informs me at the end of April that they are canceling my June appt and changing her date availability. As most of the working populatuon, I work M-F regular office hours, which are her clinic hours. I cannot just switch dates when I made an appt 3 months in advance to see her. This is convenient, rude, and unprofessional.
