Horrible Patient Services
Waited 3 months to see him then waited in the waiting area for over 2 hours to be told he still had a patient ahead of me. I had to leave for another appointment and was offered to reschedule for them to then tell me to wait again for 3 more months... and then they wrote on my chart I was a NO SHOW...no respect for me, my time or even general courtesy. I would not trust someone like that to provide care, and when does 'care' start by the way? The thing is, this disrespect is such a routine protocol, they have a lady with a basket of snacks and drinks that troll the halls giving patients that have been waiting for hours, some sustance...OMG! He may be a good surgeon but certainly not worth the wait and the gamble he will be responsive in a timely manner down the road.

Don’t have complications
My surgery went extremely well but I developed complications and all he would say is I didn’t do anything wrong. Maybe not but I was in a great deal of pain which I didn’t have prior to surgery. I sought a different doctor and had a simple surgical procedure and the pain was gone!

Dr. Cole listens and explains proposed treatment clearly. ? When you are in his office, he gives you full attention, and will answer as many questions as you have. ?

His surgery to replace my ankle was accomplished with such precision that you can barely see a scar. I can walk again with no pain or tenderness. And his estimates of different points in the healing process were completely accurate to the day! He treated me with professionalism, concern, expertise, and understanding of my issues and difficulties. He always listened intently as I answered his questions. He listened to everything I described with patience and empathy in determining the best way to solve my ankle problem. His associates were equally calm, polite, friendly, and competent! I felt safe and secure in his care and had no fears that the surgery would not work! It Worked!!! Perfectly! Many thanks to Dr. Cole and associates!

The Miracle Worker!
Dr. J Dean Cole fixed my shoulder after having broken screws from prior surgery elsewhere. I consulted with several orthopedic doctors and after x-raying my shoulder every one of them said "it's the end of the line, nothing we can do". After consultation with Dr. Cole, he suggested he could repair my shoulder with an engineered component to fit in with my scapula and support the cup and ball between shoulder and arm. He operated on my right shoulder as a reverse TSR revision and fixed in the engineered component. It is now 6 month's later and my arm is working well. The best orthopedic surgeon I have ever had to perform surgery on me. I give Dr. Cole 10 out of five. Cannot praise him enough. Thank you Dr. Cole and staff.

I cannot emphasize how pleased I am with Dr. Cole. I had a knee replacement. The compassion and thought that Dr. Cole put into my problem is amazing. A caring doctor. He showed total interest in my goals. The staff is minimal, and often a mess trying to get answers with scheduling but Maylin knows her job and does it well. I find this type of office is refreshing and I love it and I am a nurse of 43 years. The staff at Advent Health…… perfect!

Start to finish awful. Thank goodness it ended up being just a consultation and I selected a different physician/group for my surgery. Don’t waste your time jumping through the hoops just to get an appointment. This doctor is not worth your time and trouble.

Dr. Cole is one of the best orthopedic trauma surgeon in the country. He fixed my broken hip about six years ago. Based on that experience, I went to him for a knee replacement four months ago. Now I'm hiking, biking, paddle boarding, etc. I'm far ahead of others I know who have had knee replacements. Having gotten to know him somewhat, I can tell you that Dr. Cole is a perfectionist. He uses high-quality implants. He is obsessive-compulsive about avoiding infections, which is why he has the lowest infection rate at Florida Hospital (you DO NOT want an infection in a joint implant). He prioritizes his patients above all else. He also is a good guy. In you have a serious fracture or need a new knee or hip, you're just not going to do any better.

After receiving a right knee replacement from another Orthopedic Surgeon , I have continuous issues and underlying pain. I was professionally referred to Dr. Cole by my primary care provider. After contacting Dr. Cole's staff, I was instructed to gather and forward to him all relevant medical records, x-rays, and reports. That involved several medical professionals and facilities. Then suddenly, before Dr. Cole could even receive the complete record, let alone evaluate my problem, he instructed his staff to call me and informed me he could not (more like would not) help me. So much for a second opinions and his hypocritical oath. It's obvious Dr. Cole's actions that he is more interested in shielding another surgeon's position and problems than helping me with my issue and my pain....

Dean Cole really is a miracle worker & in very HIGH demand!!! I had 2 terrible accidents & broke my femur 2 x. Over the years I developed arthritis, & a 1.5" lengthening in my left hip ,& Dr. Cole performed my anterior hip replacement. Literally no pain the next day except 4 the surgery scar area ,& I am back doing everything he said I would be able to do. Please don't allow some of the negative reviews about his staff scare you. They r busy so be patient, call or even make a visit to get on his schedule. Remember everyone is trying to see him & he takes his time explaining what u need 2 know & understand with each patient, this is why u may wait up to 2 hrs. to see him. Plan for that, he is worth it!!

Dr Cole did a fabulous job mending my 92 year old father's leg. I was not as impressed with my knee replacement. With knee replacement, the physical therapist is also equally important and It took me 4 physical therapists to finally make progress so that I could walk properly, however never reached any more than 110 degrees of flexion and am unable to ride a bike. Need to coordinate care better for optimal results.

I went to Dr Cole because of a car accident that broke my Tibia and Fibula back in 1983. Unfortunately my bones did not heal correctly. My already flat foot now caused a terrible amount of pronation. I had to where orthotic arches and leg boot but to no avail. This was very painful because of the arthritis that developed. So I looked for an orthopedist (Dr Cole) In Orlando 1992 Dr Cole told me he was very confident that he could re-brake the bones(fib +tib) and fit me with an external fixator. He even took a video of my walking before the operation with a plan to take another video after the surgery to compare what he stated would be a significant improvement. Once the bones healed(4 months) I saw there was no change whatsoever in my foot and ankle. My foot had still turned in (pronation) was exactly as bad as before the operation. What really shocked me was when I politely brought this to his attention he threatened to have me thrown out of his office. This arrogance he displayed with

I loved this doctor. From the pre-op class that familiarized the patient with the surgery (hip replacement in my case) and what to expect, to the surgery itself, to the post surgery care, I consider Dr. Cole to be the best. Within 2 weeks after surgery I was walking nearly a mile. I feel that it was due to his excellent surgical knowledge and techniques. He is friendly, interested, compassionate and has excellent "bedside manner".

The orthopedic dept at the Royal Bristol Infirmary is named after my daughters grandfather. He and Sir Alan Apley wrote the text book used by many orthopaidic surgeons throughout the world. Yet Dr Cole considers himself more important, more knowledgeable than the best out there. I needed a second opinion on my knee that was replaced and this man without even talking to me decided there was nothing he could do for me and refused to see me. i would not recommend him to anyone.
