Irresponsible Treatment Recommendations
I saw Dr. Yaris 2 or 3 times at her practice in Mammoth Lakes. The first time was to discuss menopause symptoms. She proceeded to recommend an over the counter product that increases estrogen. I have a history of estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer and cannot take anything that increases estrogen. She has my history. That was strike one, but I was willing to give her a second chance. The next time I went in for altitude-related sleep/breathing issues that have been getting worse, and told her I had not slept for two nights because whenever I dozed off I'd wake gasping for air. I told her I don't have this issue at lower elevations. She dismissed this as anxiety and was more than willing to prescribe anxiety medication rather than explore what might actually be the cause. It turns out I have severe sleep apnea related to altitude (tested and diagnosed by a different doctor). Unbelievable approach, especially considering that she works at high altitude!
