In 2021 I saw Dr Madura; at that time he also did bariatric surgery and repairs of same. I had an old stomach stapling from the 1980s which was causing problems, I also had hernias and old mesh from previous hernia repairs. He being at the Mayo Clinic, only the “best of the best” work there, right? I was unable to eat meat or vegetables, it caused severe pain. So eating only carbs, I had gained weight. Dr Madura II said if he repaired my old surgery, so I would be able to eat meats and vegetables, I would gain more weight. So he refused to help, even with my hernia’s. I felt discouraged, hopeless. I was seeing a lung and a heart doctor; my weight was causing asthma, and heart problems. Both doctors suggested I see a bariatric surgeon to help; I thought I had seen the best, after all he was at the Mayo Clinic, and was refused help. My son and my other doctors encouraged me to try another surgeon. The Mayo Clinic gastro intestinal doctor told me to try Dr. Swain who used to work at the Mayo clinic and did bariatric surgery and repair. I made an appointment, he said he would help, and scheduled me for an endoscopy. After it was done, he said he would decide what approach to take with surgery and I would be scheduled for surgery before I leave. After about an hour, he came back to the recovery area to inform me, he could not help at all! I became hysterical after being so discouraged and him telling me he could help and would help- he walks up with his mind totally changed? When my tears started, he said “you’re alive” and abruptly walked away! Lying there alone, not knowing what to think, tears flowing a doctor turning a 180 with no explanation. The nurse came up and held my hand to comfort me. I asked what happened she said she did not know. He had just had her call the Mayo Clinic and get Dr. Madura on the phone for him…. Unbelievable, whatever Dr. Madura told Dr. Swain made him change his mind on helping me and tell me well “you’re alive”. Total devastation, I could not be lower. My son and other doctors convince me to try one more surgeon. I found a Dr Lovato, who could see me and was not to very far away. After making the appointment, I looked her up and saw she was very young. Thinking she may not know of the old “stapling” done in the 80’s, I called her office. I spoke with a nurse, to explain my fear of getting another refusal for help and I’ve already been very discouraged. I told her I decided to cancel my appointment for that reason. I could tell from her voice, knowledge and demeanor she was not very young; she calmly and with sincerity, simply said “I would not cancel my appointment if I were you”. I kept my appointment; first I saw a P.A., then Dr Lovato came in. She was very young, admitted she had not done a repair surgery on a stapling; yet wanted to help. Those words were the best thing I had heard, her demeanor was so very kind. She told me she knew a surgeon she believed could help me; she would get back to me by phone. By the time I got home I received a call from another surgeons office. Dr. Lovato had already spoken to the surgeon, his office was calling to make an appointment for me! The Next Day I saw Dr. Fang, a soft-spoken, doctor who had a “calming” effect on myself and my son. He looked over my records, said he had spoken to Dr. Lovato and he could and was willing to help. By the way doctor Madura was a resident in training under him! Two days later I was in surgery. Dr Fang did a large open surgery repairing all of my problems; even the old infected hernia mesh. I just had my 2 year check up; I’ve lost approx 100lbs, and feel great! I no longer need a lung or heart doctor, I have not even had so much as a sinus infection! Dr. Daniel Fang, MD gave me life. I want dr Madura to know this!! I would not send my worst enemy to Dr. Madura. I would refer anyone I care about to go to Dr. Fang, if they need a surgeon.

Love this doctor….he’s the best!
My husband had a surgery to repair an abdominal hernia, a hiatal hernia, and remove a gastric band that was out of place and was severely limiting his ability to eat. Dr. Madura is a very talented surgeon and also a very caring person. As far as we are concerned he is a miracle worker. My husbands quality of life has improved dramatically and we are so thankful. Thank you Dr. Madura!
