Dr was a 2nd opinion regarding neck surgery. He advised that we not do surgery instead try neck injections. Not rushing into surgery and trying all options was a wise decision for me. Very thankful to him for this recommendation.

Had appointment for after hospital stay due to concussion. Appointment was on 11/1/23 with his PA. PA agreed to final release and promised report would be sent to my cardiologist in 24 hours. That doctor needs release in order to treat a heart condition. Some 6 weeks have now passed with numerous requests made by myself as well as cardiologist office, all to no avail. Have even asked for help with management staff at Grand Strand Medical Center. Still no response and I cannot get needed treatment from hear doctor until he receives the needed report showing my release! He (Dr Smith) maybe the best surgeon in the state, but his staff sucks as they are non responsive to patients needs.

Dr James Smith is an awesome doctor. My back was so bad i could hardly walk. After seeing Dr Smith he reviewed my mri and explained to me indepth what he would do to fix my problems. Dr Smith did a two level lumbar fusion with interbody cage.My Back has never been better !!!!! Thank you very much Dr Smith, Pa Erin Finley and Shelley Squires. I could have not been more happy with Dr. Smith and his entire staff they were so professional and explained all things and answered my questions honestly. I required a L4-5 TLIF and the outcome was better then he anticipated as I have been living with daily pain and Gait issues for almost 20 yrs. He was honest and informed me he wasn`t sure if I would be 100% pain free or not due to the length of time with the injury. I was facing possible paralysis if nothing was done. I took the chance and I thank god every day I did. I am now pain free and I walk like a normal person again. I have total control of my legs again, I rode a bike for the 1st time in 20 yrs. I would recommend and do to anybody who needs help like this. I would see him again in a heartbeat if needed. I can"t thank him and his staff enough

From the first visit with Dr. Smith I knew I was in good hands. He explained the results of my MRI and what surgery needed to be done thoroughly . He is very compassionate and an excellent surgeon. I would also like to thank Shelly Dr. Smith's nurse she always gets back to you she is so patient and compassionate. Dr. Smith done my cervical and lumbar spine surgeries while practicing in Kentucky, he is an amazing physician, caring, compassionate, and very thorough with explaining things regarding your condition/procedure!!

He treated my mothers cancer and explained the condition, treatment, and everything associated with what she may experience and what to expect. He was very patient, thorough, and had excellent bedside manner. When I called back between MRI scans to express concern, he wasted no time calling her back in. She had many more months of life because of him.

I had what is called ACDF. Dr.smith removed a damaged disc that was pressing on a nerve in my neck, replaced it with an artificial disc, and fused my neck back with a metal plate and screws. He has been great before and after surgery. Before surgery, he took forever going over every option, questions, and concerns I had.
