Great doctor
Dr. Kamler was an excellent listener. He asked pertinent questions about my health and reasons for visiting the practice. I felt that he was interested in me and tried to find a solution to my issues. I appreciated his friendliness and his engaging manner. I would see him again.

Competent and Patient
I saw Dr. Kamler last week after lingering post-op issues. I found him both friendly and patient. He listened to my complaints and was not dismissive of my concerns. I left my consultation feeling informed, and confident in Dr. Kamler’s proposed course of action and hopeful about getting my health back on track.

Dr. Kamler was incredibly dismissive, non-engaging and cynical when it came to my concerns with my care. Before examining me, he initially said that I had hemorrhoids and nothing to worry about because I was healthy. After the exam on the table, he said that I did not have hemorrhoids. I tried to speak to him about my family history of colon cancer in which he told me that I am too young and that if I had cancer it would've showed up on my CT scan. I had a colonoscopy with him as well, and during that colonoscopy, when I came into the exam room, he was car shopping on his computer and did not even acknowledge me while I was laying down getting ready for my anesthesia. While I was in the recovery room, he came into the room and said "I bet you were hoping I would find cancer ". I then asked him if my colonoscopy was clear, then why am I still in pain. He replied "are you having pain now or are you talking about previous pain, because I have to go." I have never in my experience had a doctor that was so arrogant, dismissive, and just lacked basic empathy for a patient. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone, especially anyone with a complex medical diagnosis. He acted as though my diagnosis would not be impacting me as an adult, despite there being numerous peer reviewed articles from surgeons and doctors who wrote and spoke about this condition and the urgency of treatment. He was unwilling to listen to my concerns and I left both visits in tears and with a lot of anxiety about my care with him. I ended up switching providers and walked into that appointment very anxious and fearful, however, after seeing a new provider at the Salinas location, I was treated with respect empathy, and was listened to.

A Doctor’s Dilemma: Too many patients, no time
When I first met Dr. Kamler at the outpatient office-setting, he was very straightforward, yet caring. When I went in for my colonoscopy, I don’t remember him greeting me, let alone giving any words of comfort—luckily, the nurses did. He seemed like he was stressed and on a time-crunch (as the healthcare system will do). Because I was under conscious sedation, I don’t remember anything he said to me post-procedure, and he did not clarify my questions I asked a nurse to ask him after the sedation started wearing off. Overall, he is a very good, trustworthy doctor, but his “bedside manners” seem clouded by the clock.

In 2007, Dr. Jan Kamler saves my life. He removed numerous pre-cancerous polyps from every area of my colon, and was persistent in my follow up care. I lacked adequate insurance at the time, but he was persistent, telling me that I would die without treatment. He co-arranged treatment in St. Louis, Missouri, as I had moved here with my family. I had my entire colon removed in 2009, and had my lower interestines moved down and reconnected, leaving me 5 inches of anus/rectum. Without Dr Kamler, I would have been dead by age 45. Thank you Dr. Kamler for caring so much.
