Bad diagnostic
Dr. Bruns sent me hoe with an acute kidney problem. The blood results showed I was dehydrated but he also interpreted that the x ray was showing an edema in my lungs. He sent me home with a water and potassium pill. I was just dehydrated. Guess what? The dehydration become more severe because of the water pill. Wrong diagnostic. You cannot diagnose a kidney failure for a dehydration and edema that was never confirmed…! He caused me a severe depression and anxiety..! I’ve been dealing with this since 02-03-24. I hate the day I went into that ER facility. I don’t recommend to go there at all. Saint Luke on Johnson Drive and Roe.

This is the man to go to for a blood sugar crisis
My mom went to him with blood sugar over 600. Normally her BS yoyos for days after a crisis like that, but Dr. Bruns brought it down evenly and got her back on her pump so she had the best night in terms of BS levels in months. Dr. Bruns is on a pump himself and really understands how pumps and insulin work.

Saved My Life
Dr. Bruns saved my life and I’ll be forever grateful. He was also very kind and compassionate and patient with me and my husband and newborn. I had severe postpartum preeclampsia and he ran all of the tests quickly to be able to get me the proper diagnosis and started immediately on the correct course of treatment. This was not our family’s first time being treated by Dr. Bruns, he also previously treated my older child when we had an emergency room visit, and that encounter was a good one, as well. He treated my child quickly and made sure all of our questions were answered. You never want to find yourself or a loved one in an emergency room, but Dr. Bruns and the rest of the staff at St. Luke’s East those two occasions made us feel safe and valued, and we are truly appreciative of everything they did for us! Thank you!

Not relatable
When reading other reviews you find other patients who stated they were given compassionate care… they noted that they were treated by Dr. Bruns immediately, even though he had no definitive answer for their pain/symptoms. This is not the experience we had with Dr. Bruns. He refused to do exactly that(per his owns words) for my client! His explicit biases and prejudice was at the center of how he “cared” for my client, including poor bedside manners. He was mean, dismissive, and not relatable. Neither was my client's symptoms believed even though she had a definitive reason for her symptoms and a clear medical history of a life threatening illness that caused those exact symptoms! He was belittling and discharged my client in a full Mast Cell flare and a Staph infection that has been unresponsive to oral antibiotics, hence the reason Urgent Care transferred her to the Emergency Department Beware, BIPOC!

When reading other reviews you find other patients stating they were given compassionate care…and symptoms treated by Dr. Bruns immediately, even though he had no definitive answer for their pain/symptoms. This is not the experience “minority” patients have with Bruns. His implicit bias and prejudice are at the center of his patient care, the lack there of…including his poor bedside manners. He is mean, dismissive, and not relatable. “Minority” patients are belittled and shown no compassion from Dr. Bruns, neither are their symptoms believed even though the patient has a definitive reason for their symptoms, he visually saw the symptoms, and was aware of the patient’s clear medical history of a illness that can easily become life threatening …being complicated by their acute symptoms! My client was discharged in a Mast Cell flare with throat pain… possible swelling, systemic itching, systemic Staphylococcus unresponsive to oral antibiotics for 7 days, etc.… and he gaslit her at discharge. Beware!

Dr Bruns handled himself with a calm and caring demeanor while I was in the ER hoping he could find out what was wrong. He found I do have a big problem but the ER couldn’t help as much as being admitted to the hospital or going home with new instructions. The hospital was full so I am trying what he advised & have had a few encouraging results. But still need further evaluation by a specialist, which I will call. I just thought he was really a good ER Dr and if I need another Er Dr again I hope to catch him.

Went into the ER with tremendous pain in hip and Dr. Bruns immediately came in and put orders in. I appreciated his bedside manner taking time to sit down and talk with me about CT results, even though he had no definitive answer for my pain. Very down to earth!
