I wish I had read the reviews
Because everything I read about Jason Itterson was my experience & more. Nurse was no better but at least she wasn't touching me inappropriately.

Same Poor Experience as Others
Dismissive. Less than 5 minutes and that’s only because I had to pry answers while he sat silent. Nothing was explained. He talked over me to ask his assistant to supply his preprinted form rather than explain what was happening. There are good people in this office, just don’t waste your time seeing him.

Took less than 10 minutes. Never asked any questions. Most of the information was pre-written and not actually true. I will not see him again for sure. Out of my 24 years in the military I have to say this guy seemed to be preoccupied and took no time to ask questions on my personal concerns.

He is rushed all the time, a bit arrogant, somewhat dismissive, and likely missed a cancer growth on me. There are other choices at that facility. Go to another dermatologist. I did.

Wasn't welcoming or friendly
I shared my various concerns about my skin issues with the assistant and when Dr. Van Ittersum came into the room, he focused on one and just said medical terms to the assistant and then left. I had no idea if my issues were of concern to him and most of my comments were not addressed. It was a dehumanizing experience - I am not going there again and recommend others not to as well. I gained nothing from that appointment.

Just rude
I went in to see a PA. She wanted Dr. Ittersum to come in and affirm her diagnosis. He made me feel like a fool with my spot being very small and nothing to worry about, laughing on his way out. I have a history of skin cancer and didn’t appreciate him making light out of what I was concerned about.

I see Dr Van Ittersum yearly for skin cancer checks. He has occasionally had to take biopsies and he and his staff has performed other procedures like removing moles or lasering age spots. Plus he has consulted with me about removing a birth mark. He is very matter of fact and has always been professional and kindly answered all my questions. I will say, the skin cancer checks are uncomfortable because you have to sit in a paper gown and get scanned everywhere, but I don't think it would be pleasant anywhere with any doctor.

Very arrogant and self absorbed. He misdiagnosed me after a very horrible almost humiliating experience. After having me take my clothes off I sat with a gown on. He never even looked at any part of my body and asked me where I wanted him to take a biopsy from cause he couldn't find anything wrong! "I said how would I know, you're the doctor." He then just picked a spot on my arm and took a chunk out. I still have no idea what he was looking for as the test came back negative. I went to another family doctor and they treated me for the right skin problem as expected. Non caring, lacks knowledge, and obnoxious is the best I can say. Visit him at your own risk.

With a history of malignant melanoma, and being new to the area, I was referred to Dr. Van Ittersum by a friend. I needed a full body scan and I was lucky that he had a cancellation so I got in the next day. Dr. Van Ittersum was quite friendly, very knowledgeable and took the time to explain all that he found and the treatments available..performed that day! I highly recommend him and plan to return every six months.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Van Ittersum?
I have seen Dr Van Ittersum and Dr Richards on visits to Norton Shores and Grand Rapids offices. Offices were neat/tidy and support staff generally ok. My issue was with clinical care, or lack of. The focus appeared to be on treatment only, and required frequent follow up by me for results, next steps etc. In spite of the presence of malignant melanoma in my family (father and brother) this was not noted or remarked upon during initial/ follow up visits. The focus was not on monitoring.

Very disappointing. A smart man with zero people skills. When I asked for a brief explanation of what he saw in my skin he told me his nurse would explain. When I pressed him he gave me a very sarcastic response, which embarrassed even his nurse. When I made arrangements to see a different doctor the next time, I was met with No, you must see him today.
