I had an extremely distressing experience at Dr. Jay Basillote's office, located at 1086 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10310. My appointment was scheduled for 1 PM, but I wasn’t seen until 2 PM. When Dr. Basillote finally attended to me, it was clear he was rushing after seeing other patients before me. The procedure I underwent was a cystoscopy, and I was told by both Dr. Basillote and his assistant that I would only feel slight pressure, with no pain, due to the numbing cream he applied. However, when I asked if he needed to wait for the numbing cream to take effect, he assured me it worked immediately, which I found odd, but I trusted him as the doctor. As soon as he began inserting the tube into my urethra, I felt sharp, intense pain and was very vocal about it. Despite my clear expressions of discomfort and pain, both Dr. Basillote and his assistant dismissed my concerns, telling me the pain would subside. Instead of pausing to ensure the numbing cream was effective, Dr. Basillote continued the procedure, causing me excruciating pain that led me to scream and see white lights from the shock. What made the situation even more unbearable was the insensitivity of the assistant, who kept insisting I look at the screen during the procedure, despite my clearly stated inability to open my eyes due to the severe pain. The entire procedure felt rushed, and Dr. Basillote only spent about two seconds examining my bladder before concluding that everything looked fine. After the procedure, both Dr. Basillote and his assistant quickly left the room, telling me he would check on me in two minutes. I was in total shock and traumatized by the experience. When he returned, I broke down in tears, overwhelmed by the trauma of what I had just endured. Dr. Basillote’s lack of thoroughness and care was appalling. He did not take the time to ensure the numbing cream was effective, nor did he give my bladder a thorough examination. To add insult to injury, he didn’t inform me of any potential side effects and simply told me I’d feel better by the end of the day. When I got home and went to the bathroom, I experienced intense pain and noticed I was bleeding—something I wasn’t warned about. Later, I discovered that blood clots, which I was experiencing, required immediate attention. When I called the office at 4:30 PM, it was already closed, despite their stated hours being until 5 PM. I had to reach out to my OB-GYN to understand the symptoms I was experiencing. The lack of communication, care, and follow-up from Dr. Basillote’s office is inexcusable. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid Dr. Jay Basillote. My experience was traumatic, painful, and left me feeling completely disregarded as a patient. This is not the standard of care anyone deserves. RUN FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE!

Doctor is great, office staff is horrible!
Dr. Basillote is an excellent doctor. I am comfortable with his care. BUT dealing with his unprofessional office staff is the problem. They are nasty, when you ask a valid question. There is only one person who can process anything, so if they are not there you are left hanging. When I questioned things that I was told by the doctor that would be done, I was told ' Sorry I don't do that. I don't know what to tell you.' Terribly unprofessional!!!! It's shame how great doctors are ruined by their office staff.

Reception and management Staff is terrile
Worst staff ever. Very disrespectful and even though you wait an hour they will charge you a $25 fee if you’re 15 mins late. Extremely unprofessional and nasty when asked about it after you receive a bill. Dr was ok but there’s plenty of urologists out there.

I have never had a problem with Dr. Basiolotte nor his staff. I have had emergency surgeries where he could of handed me to the on call doctor but never did. His wait time is normal and he explains everything to you. He has even written out some things I thought I would forget. His surgical staff tries to accommodate your schedule with his for procedures where it should be the other way around. He is soft spoken a true professional and I highly recommend him. I am a female 59.
