Below average competence and interactions.
I am unhappy with the surgery results and this doctor was dismissive of questions on multiple occasions.

Waste of Time
Save your time and your money. Doctor and nurse couldn't be bothered to take time to understand the reasons that led to visit. Told the nurse that there were two issues and her response was what is the main one and she ignored the other issue not even telling the Doctor. Long story short -- all about making money by taking xrays and prescribing physical therapy. DON'T BOTHER.

I had thumb surgery 6 weeks ago with continued pain. Last week he removed the pin last week but a bubble was on the incision which he commented, it was from the pin. Next day, pus erupted from the site, went to the ER they placed me on IV antibiotics and it is still draining. You would think with the experience of doing these surgeries, he would see that my whole hand was infected. No word was said to me. I'm upset because they offer no post operative care, this could have been deadly with infection spreading throughout my body. Horrible experience which I lost complete trust in him.

Went for a consult a number of years ago and was shocked at his lack of empathy, arrogant attitude, and how little time he spent with me. When I started to ask questions, he cut me off and left the room to attend to the next patient. Never went back.

My diagnosis was not correct
I had to go to another Dr after more than a year after surgery. I complained about pain in my thumb and wrist and was told there was nothing there, and nothing wrong. I have scar tissue in the surgery I had plus a ton of arthritis which is fusing my wrist and surgically 'repaired' finger. I am in a brace and rubbing medication on my hand & wrist since I have lost a lot if motion and use .How does someone miss this and say there is nothing there? I accepted the silence, thinking he was just quiet, but now wish I had jumped off the table. The professionalism at my new Doctor showed us what going to the Doctor should be. I hereby rescind the number of stars I gave previously and rejoice to have found my new Doctor.

Excellent surgery outcome
I had a meniscus tear repair and Dr. O’Brien was excellent. Recovery was quick (following the exercises and PT requirements). I am very pleased with the outcome and how quickly I returned to my prior activity level before the injury.

Staff was nice and I really liked his Pa. (Kate) as for Dr. O'Brien I don't care for him at all. He has no bed side manner. He did meniscus tear surgery on me and it was a LONG time to heal. Had to go to therapy afterwards.

Had left shoulder surgery with Dr. O’Brien on 10/4/19. Started PT with Steve on 10/7/19. On 10/22/19, Steve hurt me so bad during PT that he caused a SLAP tear on my left shoulder. I didn’t know at the time, but kept complaining of intense pain to Dr. O’Brien. He ordered numerous tests, including an MRI with contrast on left shoulder on 12/24/19. This test showed the slap tear but no dr locally bothered to look at it to see that my pain was legit because of the slap tear. Even saw five other specialists around town, all of which had access to the images. All of them told me it takes about a year for shoulders to heal. Frustrated that I was getting nowhere to my pain ending, I visited the Mayo Clinic and it was there that the shoulder specialist surgeon took the time to view the images on that CD and told me I had a SLAP tear. I’m still in ALOT of pain today because of what Steve did to my shoulder. And Dr. O’Brien should have taken the time to look at the tests he ordered, but didn’t.

He performed surgery on my right shoulder - the experience was the worst I've had. The staff are cold and non compliant with requests - it took me 3 requests to have my records sent to the physical therapist. The surgeon had a terrible bed side manner and didn't come to see me after the surgery to tell me what he actually did - I found that out 10 days later because he never returned my phone calls. When he checked me on a follow up visit he looked at my left shoulder and said oh that's healing nicely - I reminded him that he operated on the right shoulder. I am now waiting to go see a new surgeon because I'm in more pain now than before the surgery.

I fall and hurt my shoulder. I saw Dr. O’Brien and I was scheduled for surgery in a very timely manner. Dr. O’Brien and his staff plus his physical therapist Steve Shepard have taken incredible care of me. Anytime I call The office they have answered promptly and addressed my need or concerns properly. I am very pleased with the professional care that I received from Dr. O’Brien and his staff and I recommend their services without concern on reservation. Sincerely

Very uncommunicative and condescending when you ask any questions. Went as a workman's comp referral for treatment of my neck and back, he spent less than 5 minutes doing the the usual grab my hands reset pushing etc., then sent me for a functional capability exam which tested my strength and tolerance. I get to the 4+ hour test and immediately have to sign a pretty scary release that says the test may reinjure me and waives liability. Then was pushed and prodded and asked to perform taks which are the exact opposite of safe for me and resulted in reinjury which set me back 4 months in recovery. When I went to the followup and asked him why I was sent to a test like that when I was clearly still injured and was expecting treatment to help me and he acted like I was being an unreasonable patient. Clearly I was a cog in his workman's comp machine and he had no interest even in informing me of what was going on, much less had ANY consideration for my health and healing progress.

Had a growth under my right thumb nail which turned out to be cancerous. Dr O'Brien after a consultation with a dermatoligist decided that the best thing to do was to remove the end of thumb at the knuckle. He did an excellent job and I had very little pain after the surgery. I am very happy with him and all of his staff, they all are really very professional.

After suffering with hip joint pain for 3 years when I was finally referred to Dr. O'Brien. Scheduling was easy, appointment was almost immediate. Office staff were friendly and professional. Nurses were also very friendly. Dr. O'Brien was cordial and pro-active. After discussion and review of my MRI's, surgery was scheduled for the 1st hip. 4 weeks later surgery on the other hip. (Labrum tears) I have had no problems with recovery and am so happy with the treatment and care I received.

Dr O'Brien is an excellent and efficient surgeon. I fractured my tibial plateau 2x in 1 week. The 2nd time was an open tib-fib fracture & required immediate surgery. He even did the surgery ASAP on Saturday. His surgical PRECISION is amazing, smooth & straight. Healing is better than expected, since I have osteoporosis & other issues. His office staff & team are professional, curtious & very helpful! I'm chatty, but APPRECIATED his direct & concise manners. I highly recommend Dr O'Brien & team!
