The providers were friendly

By far the worst experience with a specialist, and I have seen more than my fare share of specialists. Terrible attitude, dishonest, manipulative and not helpful at all. Avoid Dr. Ralph at all costs.

This man obviously does not care about the people who come to see him. We're just a collection of symptoms that he may or may not find interesting. During my visit with him, he refused to answer almost all the questions I asked. He may be knowledgeable, but is too arrogant to share his expertise with us, the lowly patients. Avoid this man like the plague. He seems to get along well with other doctors at UCSF, so go to another neurologist there (most are excellent) and if you have a tricky diagnosis or treatment plan, let them interact with Rotten Ralph. I've successfully dealt with doctors who seem to have the attitude of "me doctor, you idiot," but Ralph carried this to a whole new level. The attitude I got from him was "me doctor, you meat." It was an unpleasant and infuriating interaction. Nobody deserves to be treated like he treated me.

Sadly, I've found him to be dishonest which is a terribly commentary on UCSF otherwise known for excellence. He strikes me as somehow irrationally judgemental and quick to withhold diagnostics in an effort to convince certain patients that their neuropathies are idiopathic with no known cause. I don't know if this is an effort to save money on diagnostics or a generalization about what Medicare or Medicaid patients deserve regarding workup and treatment. He's not a very good liar.
