Acoustic neuroma surgery
Finding Dr Moliterno and Dr Kveton to perform my acoustic neuroma surgery really been rewarding. Nov, 7 2024 changed my perspective on the brain. This surgical team is not only extremely qualified but also puts you at ease. Explaining everything. My worries were nonexistent when I met them. Surgery date of April 9, 2025 came quickly, but I was ready. For me, having a loving support system, exercising, eating well, eliminating all inflammatory foods and drinks, meditating, laughing and continual research on the fantastic brain helped me to relax. I even had body massages leading up to surgery. In truth, the first few days after surgery were rough and I was so dependent on everyone at Yale for everything! Thankfully, through the skills of my surgeons and my preparations, I found that I was quickly recovering. My biggest concern was preserving my facial nerve. Happy to say that my smile is fine! VT is next Thanks for your kindness Dr Moliterno and Dr Kveton. And nurse Nicole too!

Acoustic Neuroma Surgery
When a big tumor was discovered in my brain, behind my left ear, it was shocking because, I did not have any symptoms of it (other than mild hearing loss on that side). Luckily my PCP referred me to Dr Moliterno. During our appointment, Dr. Moliterno explained what was going on and what needs to be done. Also, she explained the risks and challenges. She and her team answered all our questions. She gave us the confidence to proceed with surgery the following week. The surgery took around 6 hours. Dr Moliterno and her team and the Neuro-ICU team was on top of things through out my stay there. While at the Neuro ICU, they did step in proactively when there was swelling and fluid. Her followup team was great during my post-discharge period. Now, 9 weeks later, my recovery is almost complete and I'm planning to go back to work shortly. Looking back I'm really happy and thank God that Dr Moliterno performed my surgery !

Hemi facial Spasm Surgery
I am 40 . I have been suffering with Hemi-facial Spasm since 10 years. My left side of my face twitches continuously like my eye was completely closed and my mouth, cheeks also pulled towards left side when I was talking, eating, laughing and even when sleeping. Then I consulted Dr. Moliterno Gunel at Yale Medical center, she monitored my MRI and suggested for MVD surgery. Actually I was the person who very scared of this surgery because of the side effects like facial numbness and permanent hearing loss. But Dr. Moliterno explained everything like what's going on inside of my nerves and what she is going to do with this surgery . Then I went through the procedure and surgery happened on July 29,2024. That was a miracle. I couldn't believe my face without twitching . It was like a dream that I ever wanted. All thanks to Dr. Moliterno, she gave my social life back. I am very happy today only because of her. Side effects: My left ear hearing is reduced a little bit but that is manageable

Acoustic Neuroma surgery
When you hear your child has a brain tumor your world crumbles in an instant. We were horrified to our core. Once we met with Dr. Moliterno, she explained everything in great detail with complete confidence that he would be ok. Her compassion and kindness is like no other doctor we have ever met. We felt completely confident with our son in her capable hands. She even held his hand and rubbed his back while they were administering anesthesia. She removed 95%of his tumor only leaving a tiny fragment to save his facial nerve. We cannot say enough about her. There is no other surgeon we would have trusted more than Dr. Moliterno. 6 weeks later he’s back to his regular activities and doing amazingly well. She is simply the best!

Dr. Moliterno
Dr. Moliterno is an outstanding professional. She removed a non-cancerous tumor from my brain a month ago. She explained the process and its related risks clearly, and the whole process went very smoothly. I would highly recommend her not only for her surgical skill, but for her warm personality, and the follow-up post surgery. She is a remarkable soul, and a credit to her profession!

The world needs more Dr. Moliterno's
My life took two detours in July 2024, beginning with a major seizure. I'd never had one. An ER trip revealed a mass—'benign'—and I was sent home with seizure meds and encouraged to do some followup. But this is your brain you're talking about.I was lucky to meet Dr. M and her team. She showed me I had a brain tumor (roughly an inch around). More importantly, she had a plan to remove it—and then she did. Dr. M operated on the tumor while I was awake, which sounds strange, but I'm really glad she did. It let her team know they could remove cancerous tissue without removing 'me.'I was home after just two nights at the hospital. Yesterday my bandages came off, and I'm no longer taking pain meds.Someday I'll be able to articulate how grateful I am to Dr. M and her team. Until then, I'll have to keep trying.

The Absolute Best
I am forever grateful for Dr. Moliterno and her team. From the first phone call I had with her I felt at ease even though I needed brain surgery to remove a tumor. After being recommended to her, she immediately called and scheduled a consultation. And then, after I sent her my initial radiology report, she called me within 20 minutes and expedited my testing on a Friday night to prepare me for surgery within 72 hours as my lesion was more serious than I was initially told at another hospital. Amidst a scary time for my family and I, her expertise and kindness made all the difference. I cannot thank her and her team enough for curing me and getting me back on my feet. She turned a serious diagnosis into the best experience it could be. There is no one else I’d feel more comfortable with my medical care. While hearing the words brain tumor & brain surgery can shock you, just know that Dr. Moliterno will help you. She is world class and so is the entire neurosurgery team at Yale.

Dr. Moliterno is fantastic!
I was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor on Tuesday, May 7th 2024, while having an MRI for another condition. It was a total shock!I was sent to Yale emergency room (which is not a good place to be). Fortunately, I met Dr. Moliterno, who saved the day. She scheduled my surgery for the following Monday, May 13th 2024. She impressed me with her empathy towards my situation, and her amazing skills as a surgeon. She had great bedside manner, and sense of humor, before and after surgery. I was only in the hospital for 48 hours. I would recommend her and her team to anyone who need brain surgery. I had a fabulous outcome.

Thankful to Dr. Moliterno for every day of my life
Having gone through multiple surgeries, I don't know where to start with my infinite gratitude and finish with amazement - with her heart, depth of knowledge, the hand that's stronger yet delicate over any other surgeon, compassion, ability to look into your heart and read your hope and pain, organization of an amazing surgical A-Team to save life or so many other qualities that in my opinion put her on the pedestal next to Hippocrates, Freud or Fyodorov. Her ongoing collaboration with my equally amazing oncologists and coordination of treatment, leave for me to only live the life I was suddenly gifted back and help others like I was helped. Please, do not hesitate or lose your lifetime on alternatives - Dr. Moliterno is your rare precious chance to be there for your loved ones and recognize how much you can do to help back in return.

Be Brave
I was referred to Dr Moliterno-Gunel after an MRI found a tumor on my brain. She monitored the tumor through frequent MRIs and kept me apprised as to the size and any changes taking place. We discussed options early on and risks associated with both leaving it and removing it. After two years, I made the decision for removal. The tumor had not increased in size but I have two more years before I retire from my position at work and we plan to relocate to the mid-west. The level of health care with Yale New Haven Health and in particular, Doctor Moliterno-Gunel, in comparison with the level of care I would have received in Michigan after retiring and moving there are unparalleled. I consider Dr Moliterno the best neurosurgeon in Connecticut after my research and felt I was in the best position for the best possible outcome. I had the surgery and am glad I did. Todays technology coupled with her skill as a surgeon guaranteed exceptional results. No more headaches thanks to my hero Doctor!

AWESOME!
Dr. Moliterno accepted me as a patient all the way from Hawaii. I started out with hearing loss that ended with an MRI revealing an acoustic neuroma. I did some diligent work researching neurosurgeons. That led me to Dr. Moliterno and I immediately felt comfortable with her. The rest is history, and I'm recovering nicely and will soon have a life again. Thank you so much, Dr. Moliterno! If you have a brain tumor, what are you waiting for? Call and get things moving your way! I couldn't be more happy!

If you have brain cancer quickly call Dr M!! She is the very best ! Saved my husbands life in 2015 with very poor prognosis Glioblastoma . He is still alive 8 1/2 yrs later !! I wouldn't trust any other surgeon . The difference between Dr M and 95% other brain surgeons is like comparing a preschooler to a PhD candidate. You will know how competent she is within 2 min of being with her. Explains well, you will feel totally taken care of , and her husband is the vascular expert who operated with her . It's like Amal & George Clooney, but brilliant and passion for what they do ! It's Christmas Eve and I thank God for leading us to Yale and Dr M and Dr G !!

Son's surgery to identify and remove brain tumor.
Dr. Moliterno and her team continue to be fantastic every step of the way. From our first impression when she took the phone from our son who was admitted with a brain tumor and talked to us as we sat in traffic on our way to the hospital. She said 'Don't worry, I'll take care of your boy.' That was just what we needed to hear as we began the hardest journey of our lives. She is always empathetic and greets us with a hug. We are all amazed at how a woman of her importance, expertise and intelligence relates so well to her patients and their families .Dr. Moliterno , Dr Kim and Dr Barden were and are always there to answer questions, provide advice/guidance and to keep current on our son's progress. Even now 11 weeks post-op, they still help coordinate our son's journey by communicating with his care team including Dr. Macdonald-Proton radiation specialist at MGH . We are forever grateful to have Dr Moliterno in our lives . She truly embodies what it means to care for her patients .

Very professional and compassionate doctor.
Dr. Moliterno Gunel is a very compassionate doctor who truly cares about her patients. She takes the time to truly listen and make sure that you understand what is going on. Dr. Moliterno Gunel was my surgeon who removed a brain tumor. After being diagnosed with the tumor, I was informed that she was the person who would be operating on me. As I was very concerned going into brain surgery, I asked around to the other doctors who all said that Dr. Moliterno Gunel is the best around! We told her that my youngest Daughter was to be married in 14 days, and she performed the surgery 11 days prior to the wedding, assuring that I could walk my youngest girl down the isle. After a successfuI surgery, I could not be more thankful. Dr. Moliterno Gunel has a wonderful team who truly instills confidence. Dr. Mary Michele Barden is one of those, who is also a great listener and fantastic doctor. Thank you Dr. Moliterno Gunel and team for pulling me through this very difficult time in my life.

Simply the best
In 2015 I met with Dr. Moliterno Gunel after a meningioma diagnosis. I was struck by her kindness as she explained the options: surgery or monitoring the tumor. I chose the monitoring route but that changed earlier this year when she showed me the change in the tumor over 8 years. Her spontaneous comment that she would have the surgery if she were in my situation only strengthened my decision to go forward with surgery. Besides her kindness and skill, she has assembled a great team (nurses. APRN’s, anesthesiologists, and residents) to take care of her patients. Prior to the surgery she explained possible side effects and her nurse Kelly patiently answered questions I had about getting ready for surgery. The day of surgery Dr. Moliterno Gunel confirmed with the team what they would be doing and said the most reassuring comment to me. The surgery was a great success (minimal side effects) and I feel relieved the meningioma is gone. Thank you Dr. Moliterno Gunel.
