1st Adult @Detroit Medical Center- 11/1983
I came to Dr Ciullo in 1983 in pain after feeling a tear in R shoulder (MVA) , I had a fractured glenoid, anterior /posterior rotator cuff tears. I underwent an extensive 12hr surgery to repair the posterior. My Referring Dr, Dr Rosenberg and others were there viewing Dr Ciullo’s procedures as he had done similar prior to coming to Detroit. I was the 1st adult to have this surgery @ Detroit Medical Center. Post-op, PT the Anterior gave way. 11/84 Dr Ciullo preformed another 8hr surgery on the front. 1986 , minor bone spur, 1989 I needed little repairs and again in 1999 a rotator tear. I was 22 yrs old when I started my journey with Dr Ciullo , it’s been 40 years. I can only talk shoulder talk and know these terms, Connolly, Reversed Connolly, Bankart , Reversed Bankart , Scott’s procedure from Dr Ciullo taking the time and explaining everything to me. The Medical Reports I have are meticulous. I found over years Physical Therapists are not Doctors, they have caused me more damage.

OLD!!! Shoulder Reconstructions
Dr Ciullo performed the Modified Bankheart procedure on both of my shoulders. One in 1985 and the other in 1986. I worked for the Southfield Fire Dept back then and was back to work in 6 weeks with no PT. I just did what he told me to do. I retired in 2004 and now am 76 yrs old. My shoulders are STILL working great for me! Thanks Dr Ciullo!!!

Shoulder Surgery in 1999
I had extensive shoulder surgery (Dr. Jerome Ciullo) in 1999. I have no issues with that shoulder now. It is as good as new.

100% surgery rate for ALL patients
He is known in the medical community as surgeon who never recommends physical therapy or alternative solutions. His standard answer is your shoulder is messed up you need surgery for EVERY patient he sees.

Always says Surgery needed – Jul 22, 2022

Dr. Ciullo operated on me with both an arthroscopic and full open-and-repair procedure after I had badly dislocated my left shoulder as a student-athlete in 1991. Fast forward to March 2021, when a clean-out procedure was performed in Annapolis, MD on that same joint after I'd torn my bicep tendon. The first thing my performing surgeon said in post-op? "Whoever performed your first surgery left behind some flawless work. You normally expect 20 years on a surgery like you had ... you got 30 years and most of it was still intact." Thank you, Dr. Ciullo.

Dr. Ciullo repaired my shoulder after a slip on the ice which damaged it greatly. He was the very best. I had an almost 6 month recovery but I was diagnosed perfectly and the repair was flawless.

I was referred to Dr Ciullo by my hand surgeon, whose work was flawless, and blindly didn't do my own homework....big mistake. I let this Dr do corrective surgeries on both rotators (arthroscopic SLAP tear procedure). Both shoulders failed and now I'm faced with the prospect of having someone else to the work over again. I SO wished I'd done more research!!! Wait times are ridiculous, I walked out of my last app't. Run, don't walk, to find another Dr....

Dr. Ciullo diagnosed my shoulder injury by just looking at the xray & completing a physical examination. I received Dr. Ciullo's letter of diagnosis in the mail before I went in for the MRI. I saw a 2nd doc for a 2nd opinion & was told I had NO interior tears & that it was a neck injury. Turns out MRI shows I have a labrum tear, anterior & posterior. My surgery is now scheduled with Dr. Ciullo for June. He may be quick & speak medical lingo, but he knows what he is looking for & how to treat it

Shoulder surgery went badly. Have more pain and less range then before surgery. Two other surgeons recommended a total shoulder replacement now. Wrong size part put in shoulder according to the other two surgeons that looked at my shoulder after the surgery.

Dr CIULLO is by far the best!! I have had 3 shoulder surgeries! Different times for different reasons! He was patient and answered all my question! I have been seen promptly and other times had to wait over an hour! I would gladly wait all day to see him! He is an excellent surgeon! My shoulders have zero pain since the surgeries! My husband is having his second surgery soon! I wish there were more doctors like him! Several of my friends and family have also been to Dr Cuillo! Excellent staff !

Pompous, arrogant, not patient-centered. Doesn't listen and doesn't care how you feel physically or otherwise. No bedside manner whatsoever. He needs to retire.

Apparently Dr. Ciullo's time is worth much more than his patients, came into the room, said my shoulder was really messed up and needed surgery, after getting a little emotional over the news, he walks out never to be seen again to answer questions I had, I asked the nurse if I could ask him some questions and I was informed he had gone to lunch. I called to talk to him and they said I would need to make another appointment and incur another office visit cost. FYI, FIND SOMEONE ELSE.

I was able to schedule an appointment with him quickly and my wait time was no more than 15 minutes. He immediately performed the necessary tests and diagnosis. Options were given to me and we were able to complete scheduling for the treatment and any follow-ups. I strongly recommend Dr. Ciullo.

I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. For the type of shoulder injury I have, Ciullo indicated that he could only do surgery on patients who are within 5 pounds of their ideal weight. (I'm not). Other surgeons refuted that as baloney, but acknowledged increased risk of surgery failure.

Horrible Doctor. Performed unnecessary surgery and botched it up leading to life long complications. During the surgery, he performed procedures he never told me about or requested my permission for! He used an in-office sonography to show me that I had a slap lesion tear. The sonography was very hazy. He never did any MRI to confirm this. During surgery he found out that there was actually nothing wrong, so he 'tightened' my shoulder instead. Now I can't move my arm much!
