Disappointing
He may be a great Dr. but he’s beyond cocky and arrogant. Almost seems as if you’re bothering his day.

Dr Wiater was thorough, and explained the options in an easy to understand manner. And was able to get my surgery scheduled without having to wait for 4 or more months. Their staff was very friendly and helpful and a joy to talk to.

Referral was by Dr. Sobel,MD. Dr. Wiater was courteous, not as personable as his father. Taking me promptly for x-rays, background of injuries and testing of arm & hand strength by asst. Dr. Lee, meeting him for first time, I felt rushed by Dr. Wiater and upon mentioning my sleep problems from shoulders, I forgot follow-through question regarding outcome of treatment: I.e. “would suggestions to resolve sleeping position problems would be forth-coming from him or the PT I would be working with for 6-8 weeks.”

Orthopaedic Surgeon of Choice
I am now nine months post R shoulder replacement surgery performed by Dr. Wiater with an excellent outcome. I may need another surgical procedure in the future and was seeking his consultation. Dr Wiater makes the diagnosis easy to understand, explains options clearly and does not pressure a patient into having a surgery until they are prepared to proceed. Staff is wonderful ~ Michael Wille, PA quickly responds to phone calls or online messages. I have great trust and confidence in Michigan Orthopaedic Surgeons practice. Incidentally, I am 74 years old and this was my first surgery! Positive experience!

Very professional. Took time to answer all questions for my wife and I both pre-/post- operatively. Followed all covid protocols(and than some) making both my wife and I very comfortable - my wife has some pre-existing conditions that make her more high risk. Excellent surgeon. Have been recovering with no set backs or complications. Very happy with everything. Very prompt follow-up when having any questions.

Bilateral horrific shoulder PAIN
Front staff is very friendly as was the intake staff. Dr Waiter was honest & straightforward about what tx would likely work for my severe osteoarthritis. At 63 yrs old I didn’t think I would need shoulder replacements but after the MRI it became obvious I do. I wanted a surgeon who only does shoulders & has had a high success rate. I am highly satisfied with my visits thus far

Shoulder Replacement
I had my right shoulder joint replaced by Dr. Michael Wiater over three years ago. The outcome of which is a great disappointment. A year ago an ultrasound confirmed what was suspected, that the subscapularis rotator cuff muscle is not attached, which explained the reduced functionality. Additionally, during the operation, the pectoral muscle was relieved, leaving it deformed. At one point during an early follow up appointment, Dr. Wiater stated that if all shoulder replacements turned out like this, they would never be done. On the plus side the pain and grinding are gone. If I had to do it over again would I? Probably yes. Would I have Dr. Wiater perform this operation? Certainly not.

Rude. Doesn't care for patients at all. Treats people like paychecks and dismisses them without thought. My father has had some major issues post surgery and the doctor and staff show zero concern for the daily pain he is experiencing. If he performs your surgery - you must hope there is no follow up because he provides zero. You will be scheduled with a PA without notice and when requesting the doctor you are flagged a difficult. I wouldn't recommend this doctor if my vary life depended on his help. He has contributed to an extremely poor quality of life for my father.

DO NOT SEE THIS SURGEON. Not only did i wait 1.5 hours IN the exam room but when he walked in wearting a pin stripe suit he asked me what the issue was. No eggagertation 30 seconds into my story he said "can you make it short, i am running behind"....Unparrelled disrespect and lack of care. There are people who get into the medical profesion because they care about helping and there are people like DR. Wiater who wanted to make daddy happy and make a lot of money by becoming a "doctor". - Mike Barnas

While the surgery did not provide the hoped-for result, there was no guarantee for success. However, with due respect to the PAs, the follow-up visits never included the presence of the surgeon himself, leaving me, the patient frustrated with unanswered questions.
