Joel Cotton does NOT listen to his patients. I found his methods outdated and stale. Total visit was LESS than 15 minutes. He would not even explore other options of treatment for my nerve pain , (which had basically crippled my right leg) and did NOT do any testing at all. I have nerve pain in other parts of my body that he did not even check. Just told me I would have to "live with my pain for the rest of my life" ... there is nothing that could be done. He also did NOT enter my personal information on my record, (I found this out later) which could negatively affect my insurance rating. I did get a second opinion, who gave me encouragement that there was at least an option to dull the nerve pain, along with possible exercises to "possibly" remedy the pain.

Saw Dr. Cotton this morning for loss of balance, unintentional weightloss and memory and confusion issues. Asked me to pull up my sleeves and I did...he asked what was on my arms and I told him it was my dogs, he then treated me as if I was a drug addict and told me everything was normal despite having lesions on my brain. I called my PCP and told them what happened. I will never return and I would NOT reccommend him.

I was referred by my ortho to get an EMG for some wrist pain. He never introduced himself. I only found out his name when I saw the report he sent my ortho. He went through the test quickly with almost no explanation. At the end he told me the test was normal and then made a snide remark because I wasn’t magically cured because because he told me I’m healthy.

Worst physician I have ever experienced . Interrupts you repetitively during history taking . Belittles you as you explain your symptoms and signs. Fails to perform even the most basic neurological exam properly omitting most of the important clinical evaluation. States he does not have the skill set to do an EMG which is a frank lie since he lists it as a skillset. Will not refer you to one of his office colleagues for the EMG he says he can’t do, & which was the whole reason for the referral by a spinal surgeon. He then abandoned me as a patient which is a violation of the Hippocratic oath. He has no interest in the patient & no interest in accurate history taking or examination. He belittles you, tried to get you to concede with diagnoses signs and symptoms you don’t even have, to fit what he wants to get you out of his office ASAP. Office manager was told of the issue & simply ignored my exoeorence, and the fact I was left abandoned/fired from his office. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR !

HORRIFIC PHYSICIAN - AVOID THIS MAN !! – Feb 07, 2020
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Cotton?
I had to wait for months to get an appointment and never cared for, and he never cared about my condition either, I have prescribed the wrong medication and had to experience five seizures, and he had such a lousy attitude and was very racist, like the reception, and nurses he never once asked me how I was feeling only about where I was born so disrespectful and dehumanizing. Never was I treated with respect I regret ever going to this doctor everyone in this office has a horrible attitude even over the phone. I had to leave the country to receive proper medication and a probable diagnosis for my condition. Please do not go here!!

I went in to Dr. Cotton as a referral due to MS like symptoms. He met with me for maybe ten minutes (generous estimation) and did tests on me that had already been completed and stated he was going to order some tests. He did not send the notes from my exam to my primary care physician for almost a month and then billed my insurance company an exorbitant amount. I called his officer with my complaints and they were completely useless. DO NOT GO TO DR COTTON and I am reporting him for medical negligence.

I had a stroke in Dec. 2016, it left me unable to walk without dragging my left leg, and with slurred speech. However after looking at the medication that I am on for my Fibromyalgia Dr. Cotton decided that it was not a stroke but instead that I was depressed. event though had it not been for the TPA shot that I was given in the ER that night I would not be here today.

If you are looking for somebody who will sugarcoat and has a great bedside manner No you will not find it with him. However he will tell you the straight up truth which is what I needed to hear! He is the third neurologist I saw and the first one to give it to me straight! I was hesitant after reading the reviews but he did spend a good amount of time with me. And he really seemed to know what he was talking about! I honestly would recommend him to somebody!

Rude, uncaring, did not help me at all. Complete waste of time and money, very disappointed. The man should retire as he does not want to help patients. A one star rating is more than he deserves.

He is a JOKE! He should not be practicing any kind of medicine ! He would not listen to me at all! Told me I had a stroke then called 2 min after I left and told me I didn’t have a stroke! Told me I couldn’t have an MRI because I take a blood thinner! He’s a total idiot! I don’t plan on paying his bill either!

This guy told me he didn’t believe I was having brain seizures even after looking at my EEG records showing I was having seizures. He then told me my symptoms were due to teenage stress and that I was hormonal. He put me on a medication that he said would help my seizures if I was truly having any and I was hospitalized because he prescribed me the wrong medication. Rudest doctor I have ever visited and doesn’t know what he’s doing at all.

What a complete joke of a neurologist. I have never had a doctor leave me a voicemail and tell me, "I don't know" so many times and then not be able to refer me to someone who does know. I have a diagnosis of vestibular migraine, my ENT referred me to him because he couldn't do anything else for me. He evaluated me for five minutes and sent me on my way refusing to change any meds I was on or even schedule a follow-up appointment. Supposedly he doesn't treat vestibular migraine... But weird that

Did not listen to my symptoms and rushed his appt with me. We was frustrated with me when I wasn't feeling better. I asked him (in tears) why I got migraines that won't go away and he said, "I don't know, but you've had them forever" and left the room.

I would never recommend this man to anyone! He rushed me through my appointment. When I tried to explain what was going on, he would cut me off and acted like he didn't want to hear what I had to say. He did a 10 minute physical exam that was a joke, my doctor did a more complete neurological exam than this guy did. He is a joke! A waste of time and fiances!

I'm not even sure how he has a medical license. Wouldn't peer even for a moment at my medical documents I brought showing medical history and symptoms. Couldn't get a word in edgewise to describe symptoms. Told me my migraines (3 day debilitating, photophobia, vomiting) were tension headaches and I should get on an anti depressant. I'm appalled at my appointment. I cannot believe that just happened. My PCP immediately referred me to a neurosurgeon instead of this joke. Don't go to this office!

Would have to argee with the most other reviews, he did not look at any of medical documentsi sent ahead of time. I have border line high cranial pressure, diagnosed visual issues, headaches 24/7 for 12 years, only time my headaches, sleep apnea, insominia went away was when i had a spinal tap that measured the cranial pressure. crap doctor doesn't listen or care. didnt let me say much at all and most his answers were crap. would not recommend him to anyone unless you wanted to torture them.

My appointment was just awful. I've had so many blood tests done and two MRIs, all through Methodist, and he didn't seem to know anything about them or have any of my records. He wouldn't let me explain my symptoms over the past 2 years, just asked how I was feeling TODAY. So if I had a heart attack a month ago, would it not matter because I wasn't having one TODAY?! Please don't go to him, he will do nothing for you.

Dr. Cotton spent time with me before and after a thorough exam, used common-sense methodology, and did not put me through unnecessary tests. This was a relief given that I've a) already undergone enough and b) have Medicare for insurance. I had to laugh when he lifted my purse and noted that my solution might begin (and end?) there. Suffice it to say, I'll be carrying a lighter load in the foreseeable future. Thanks to Dr. Cotton & his staff, I am now capable of resolving this particular burden.
