He facilitated an infection in my husband by performing a bi-lateral hydroseal which resulted in my husband becoming septic. He also totally missed a cancerous bladder tumor. We are currently going to Boston to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Green Light Laser
I just received notice he's quit, which distressed me as I was still under his care following surgery and experiencing side effects that didn't make sense. I feel like I've been left to deal with problems I have no knowledge of and with no opportunity for advice and hopefully, a solution.

Sad that Dr. Califano is no longer affiliated NLMC
I received notice in the mail today from Northern Light Urology that 'John Califano, MD is no longer working in our urology program.' No other explanation was included. I respected Dr. Califano and thought he did a good job. I know that at least at first he was happy here and envisioned retiring some years hence. The letter mentioned some interim measures and noted that they are currently working to determine how to best meet (my) needs. Seems to me I would be better off to find my own way.

Dr. Califano is an exceptional Urologist! Very knowledgeable, passionate, and kind. He explains everything in detail and does take the time to answer any questions. My husband has been going thru bladder cancer for over a year: surgeries & chemo treatments and Dr. Califano is always by his & my side. I highly recommend Dr. Califano!! And his staff, nurses, everyone in the office is kind, great and knowledgeable also.

Dr. Califano is an exceptional Urologist.
Dr. Califano has performed 2 of 3 procedures on my 91 year old Mother. He took the time to discuss my Mom’s surgery with us, and was so gentle towards her.

Rushed and sloppy
Doesn’t take time to discuss issues with patients. “Shoot first” and doesn’t even ask questions later. Performed a procedure, did not speak to patient after discharge, and cancelled follow up appointment. Says he’s too busy, definitely make him slow down and do a better job before receiving his care because he rushes and doesn’t follow through.
