Horrible
I had an appointment for a first opinion of needing neck surgery, sent to him by another treating physician. I waited nearly 40 minutes to even be taken back. He perhaps at most spent maybe 10 minutes with me back in the room. He didn't even know his PA sent me for a specific test. As he was leaving, he said and I quote ' well you have storm clouds on the horizon' and left. Now, can you explain to me what the heck does that mean? I should have worn a suit and tie, like the guy before me did as there were only two of us in the waiting room at the time. Apparently you spend more time with someone who looks like they have money, instead of someone that really does. I wouldn't recommend, if he were the last surgeon on earth.

Don't waste your time
We saw this doctor 3 years ago, and we would not recommend him if your looking for answers. Dr. Keller was rude and condescending. My husband was looking for a 2nd opinion for a bulging disc in his neck. This doctor was very evasive in answering any of our questions and we felt rushed. My husband had a question regarding his muscle deteriorating, and this doctor proceeded to insult my husband by telling him he was vain and other things. This is inexcusable behavior by any profession.

Only doctor that has ever refused to talk to me.
Three years ago he offered to fuse my lumbars. I was not ready for that so I tried two experimental procedures to help ruptured discs, stem cell and fibrin injections in Colorado and Florida. Cost me $30,000 and both made my pain and ability to function much worse. Now the problem has moved up into my thoracics. I wanted to know how high he suggest to do the surgery. She said so would let me know. She called to say he would not accept me as a patient but he could refer to someone else. I did not know what to say so after thinking it over I asked for the referral several times over several weeks. They never returned my messages.

Without out a doubt the worst experience I have ever had with a medical professional, and I use that term loosely. If you want a double booked appointment where the Dr that is going to change your life treats you like a homeless person looking for a hand out, this is your Dr. I have had better explanations of what is going to happen from my vet when I take my dog in for his shots. This person personifies an arrogant Dr. Based on my experience I would not let this person remove a hang nail. Good luck if you choose to go forward.

Dr. Keller has taken care of me for almost 30 years doing 5 different surgeries during that time, four of them being fusions of the spine. The first three were no less than miracles for me in how they turned out. My 4th fusion done one a year ago helped a lot. I just had my lower back fused 2 months ago and so far so good. My therapist and others who have seen many people that have gone through this procedure tell me that I'm doing GREAT comparably. I'm almost 68 years old now and hope this to be my last surgery but will choose Dr. Keller again if needed. Tina, his private nurse has taken care of all my needs when I've called her along with the P.A.'S and the rest of the staff.

I’ve had 4 spine surgeries. The first in 1995 was a cervical discectomy, second in 2001 was a spinal fusion of Lumbar 3-5, third by Dr Keller in July, 2019 was more fusion work, L1-3, along with a spinal decompression. The fourth and last surgery was recent, 12/4/20, by Dr Keller and was to remove all the hardware(rods & screws) that had been placed in my spine to aid the fusion of my L1-3. Some of the screws were loose and were causing me more pain. He also added bone to one area. The verdict is still out to see how much pain relief I will get with this last surgery. It’s still early so time will tell. I’m quite sure I’ll continue to have back discomfort/pain because I have several areas of my spine that are problematic, I am now age 79, but I’m hoping to have less pain in the future. Dr Keeler clearly explains the facts & is realistic regarding the possibility of less pain following surgery. He took time with me in his office prior to my surgery and offered to answer my questions.

Dr. Keller and my ortho surgeon teamed up for my multi level lower lumber fusion surgery. Dr. Keller was very transparent and truthful about my condition and why this procedure was the right surgery for my spine. This is what I needed from my surgeon as I was nervous due to the complexity. I’m four weeks post surgery and pain free. Dr. Keller will be direct to the point, which I appreciated and he is one of the most experienced neurosurgeons in the GR area.

My initial visit was my one and only. Had been to 3 other Doc's over the previous 2-3 years, putting off surgery for fear of the stories I'd been told. Wasn't comfortable with any of my options until my employer referred me to his doc, Doctor Keller. Maybe a 15 minute interview and he accepted me for surgery and I'm truly grateful. I trusted him. No nonsense, no frills, only the facts. Truth. I appreciated that. His staff, each and every one we met, from start to finish has been wonderful, better than expected. It made the process much less fearful knowing these guys had my back. No pun intended. Thank you all. You all have my gratitude and respect.

Dr. Keller identified what was causing my leg and back pain. He was honest and said that I would need surgery and other options were not going to solve the problem. I live in Northern Michigan and he was able to get me into his surgical schedule within a few days. I was in and out of the hospital in one day and now 3 weeks later I am recovering and pain free. I highly recommend Dr. John Keller.

I was referred to Dr. Keller for a lumbar disc. He explained my options clearly and I chose surgery which took place the following week. I am now almost 3 weeks post op and feel nothing more than some minor aches if I am sitting too long. I appreciate his professionalism as well as his PA, Paige and Tina as well

Dr. Keller was an answer to prayer for me. I had sudden onset of back pain to the point of inability to walk. He did a fusion and laminectomy L4 L5 S1. I had very little pain following my surgery, but I could walk! I will say recovery was a long process and it took a year to feel totally back to normal, but now I have NO pain. I can’t thank Dr. Keller enough for his expertise regarding my back surgery. I was so hesitant to go through the process, but so glad I did. Dr. Keller is excellent in his field.
