Dr. John Leiner, MD

I live in southern Virginia and finding quality healthcare professionals is quite challenging. Then, I was referred to Dr. Leiner. I drive five hours roundtrip because he takes his time to listen to my issues... and I have quite a few! He has helped me to get healthier and he is incredibly knowledgeable and explains things in a way that I can understand during every visit. I am not the best patient, but Dr. Leiner is the Best Doctor ever! I am so grateful that he is my primary care provider.

After moving to Virginia, I was glad to have been referred to Dr. Liener. He is caring and professional. As someone who has worked in the medical profession, I know many doctors. However, Dr. Leiner is more than a doctor, he is an empathetic human being that cares about my health. I am truly thankful to have him as my doctor.

The first time I saw Dr. Leiner, he listened to my symptoms, took vitals, took BP over and over, realized I had had a stroke and immediately called an ambulance to take me to an ER. There was no hesitation or equivocating. A couple of years later, I saw him for a persistent cough. When a pulmonologist was not available in a reasonable time in his health system, he and his staff reached out to other health systems, found a pulmonologist who solved my health issue right away. Dr. Leiner's willingness to reach beyond his health system was effective and immediate. He later told me that 7 years of ER experience had taught him the need for quick action.

this is for dr. leiner I've been a patient of his for almost 25 years and I enjoy him working with me because he listens to your problems and gets the job done I also trust him with my life over another doctor so if I see another one I have to call dr. leiner to see with he think it's good for me he is also a person we would like him to stay in uva health care as a doctor pls offer him more money !

Dr. Leiner has been my PCP for several years. He has consistently listened to my health issues and made recommendations or appropriate referrals for follow-up, additional evaluation, or treatment. He allowed me to research a particular treatment or medicine before proceeding with it. He didn't just tell me what to do; he encouraged my participation in my own health care. It requires a knowledgeable and confident doctor to determine that his patient has the self-awareness to even disagree from time to time.

I was under Dr. Leiner's care throughout 2022 after heart surgery. He is the only physician that I have had that was able to get my blood pressure under control. He is an excellent clinician, a good listener, takes time to answer questions, and does not avoid tough questions. His staff is friendly and helpful. When I return to Charlottesville permanently I look forward to being back under his care.

This doctor spent 45 minutes with me. Never had that much time, ever. He discussed wellness. The point of his practice looks to be helping patients understand how to get and keep their health. I was scheduled for regular follow-ups. I’m a big fan of this practice. Will update as we go down this wellness path.

I haven't seen Dr Leiner in quite a while, but when I saw him on a regular basis, he identified a problem that needed a specialist's involvement quickly. Appointments were several months out with the folks I needed to see, but Dr Leiner found a way around and got me in to see an excellent specialist very quickly. He was very proactive regarding my care, and probably saved me from some very serious potential problems.

I had several negative experiences with Dr. Leiner before finally giving up and finding a new PCP. He seemed to never know who I was or why I was being seen, he didn't show any interest in serving in the role of PCP or having conversations about my care. He was in and out quickly, and we never solved anything. I did not feel that he took my health problems seriously. He didn't seem at all interested in my health or wellbeing, or treatment as a whole. I'm not sure what the point of seeing this doctor is. I have had amazing PCPs in the past. He's impersonal and dismissive. When he does make referrals, he doesn't explain why or what the purpose is. Just all around bad.

I don't normally recommend physicians, but Dr. Leiner is one of the best in the area.
