Worst Doctor I've ever encountered.
This is the worst office I've ever had the displeasure of being sent to. I've had gastro problems for 12 years and seen many specialists. I had to wait an hour for a five minute consult where he rushed me and literally ran out of the office. After my colonoscopy and egd, he never went over my results with me. He gave me a call at 7 pm to tell me I had polyps (the kind that can turn cancerous) and to get tested for celiac disease. I've never heard from his since. Nor with the results of my blood tests. I had to have my primary care provider go over everything and refer me to a better doctor.

Incompetent Office Staff
They say you are only as good as your support staff, which is true in this case. I tried for 5 days to make an appointment to see Dr. Milliken, never was able to speak to a live person, plus there was an outdated message which announced an office closure for a month earlier! After the 5 messages left and no call backs, I called another Doctor, I do not recommend this office.

Dr Milliken is a wonderful, kind, respectful, experienced and thoughtful gastroenterologist in Traverse City. I have been to him a few times in the past 20 years and he is always the same…Great! He even saw me on a Saturday morning..

Very dismissive and rude. Spent most of the time staring at a computer. Asked me questions and didn’t look at me while I answered. Instead, interrupted constantly and spoke over me when I did get a word in. He was dismissive of anything I was saying. It was as if he couldn’t get me out of the office fast enough. Idon’t cry often but did when I left his office.

Dr. Milliken is amazing. He listens and is very reasonable about medications and treatments. Like any specialist in Traverse City, he is extremely busy. I just make appointments well in advance.

I have never been treated so rudely by a doctor until this guy. He talked to me like I was stupid and he would not listen to anything I was trying to say. He acted like I had no clue how to even describe my own symptoms. Within five minutes of being in his office I left in tears, angry and frustrated. I will NEVER go back to him and never tell anyone else to either.

Dr. Milliken is very busy and stressed, but when you finally get to see him he is kind, patient, knowledgeable and an all around good doctor. His receptionist is rude, sarcastic and often doesn't give messages, and he seems to have gone through a lot of turnover in his staff. He doesn't use an assistant and calls back all patients personally, so that is a benefit, but it is hard to get a message to him.

I had asked my doctor if the meds she had me on were causing the reflux and she said no. When the reflux only got worse. I begged my doctor for a referral, it took a year for her to give in. When I saw JP Milligan, he told me to stop all reflex meds and eat all the things that gave me reflex! I did as instructed and was shocked at the end of all his testing that my doctor was causing my reflux by telling me to take the meds she prescribed at too high a dose for too long a time.
