Dr. John Pinnello, MD

I recently had a total knee replacement by Dr. Pinnello of Castle Orthopaedics at Rush Copley. It was an excellent experience as both Dr Pinnello and his staff are very professional and very qualified. I interviewed 4 very qualified doctors and I made the right choice. I was very well briefed by Dr. Pinnello before the surgery as he spent almost an hour with me. I religiously followed the instructions given for operation preparations and had no infections or problems. The surgery went fine and I was walking the hospital halls the same day. Pain was at a minimum. Again, the follow up visits were very professional and all was explained to my satisfaction. I give Dr. Pinnello and his staff five stars +++.

Dr. Pinnello is very approachable. He answers all of my questions fully, explains the benefits and draw backs to various types of treatment and describes the issue in critical detail to my satisfactions. His explanations are clear, concise, and complete. Finally, he gives me the information I need to make good decisions about treatment I care to pursue.

Dr went over previous surgeries and over current problems and what actions may be needed for treatment. Very thorough and to the point.

Dr Pinello is a wonderful Doctor. This was my second time seeing Dr Pinello over the course of 2 years. His concern for addressing your issues and his easy manner in delivering solutions to alleviate them really put you at ease. He's a wonderful physician.

Dr Pinnello did my right knee replacement December 2019. and it was the best decision that I have ever made. He is a no nonsense doc, and very much a straight shooter. We made a deal to both do our best, and I came out with an amazing result. I am about to schedule with him to discuss my left knee, he, and his team are the only ones I want on my team! If you are thinned skinned maybe he is not for you, however, if you want a great result, and are willing to put in the work, Dr. P is your man! Period!

Absolutely no bedside manner and personality was the same. Day of surgery, came in the room, administered local anesthetic and that was the only time I saw or heard him. Once in the surgical room, I was draped and prepared by nurses (which I expected), not once did he talk to me, ask if I was okay or even let me know when he was finished. The nurse sutured me, not him, he didn’t say how things went or anything. I assumed he would come in to the post-op room to let me know his findings and what he saw. He did not, and when I asked if he was planning on talking w/me before I left, they said he was already in another surgery. I understand delegating tasks, I comprehend the job specifications for the nurses, I was quite irritated when he didn’t feel the need to touch base with me-as the patient. The two post-op appts were with the physician assistant, and still , he never came in to see how things were doing or how I was progressing. It felt like “get them in, get them done, go move on”.

I saw Dr Pinnello 2xs. 1st visit he took xrays, discussed my mild arthritis, further testing, and posibililty autoimmune issue. He educated me on RA due to multiple joint pain and told me to find a RA Dr. but will treat me for possible carpal tunnel. The 2nd visit he ?'d one of my meds and I told him I suffer from depression /anxiety /bipolar. Everything changed in that moment. He told me that my mind controls my pain, the placebo affect, etc. In other words, I'm not really feeling pain, it's all in my mind. etc. Then, he suggested I change my anti-depressant. I told him I see a P Dr., that I'm on a cocktail of meds and I have been treated successfully for the last 30 years. I'm not a newly diagnosed depressed person who's amplifying her pain to get pain meds I'm lookin for answers. I made a point to tell him this but it didn't mater, his mind was made up. I walked out feeling humiliated, angry, and frustrated. Shame on him for treated a patient so carelessly and beware new patients!
