Dr. John Schaffner, MD

We also had a disappointing experience with Dr. Schaffner, which is surprising because I have been to Mayo Clinic a couple dozen times and the quality of their doctors, nurses, support staff and overall clinic is unsurpassed---they probably saved both my and my husband's lives. In contrast, Dr. Schaffner did not listen to me or review my info about my serious GI issues, seeming to have me (incorrectly) diagnosed before we'd barely begun. He merely suggested BEANO and a diet I was already familiar with, giving no helpful suggestions when I told him I have already been eating that way for years in an even more restricted manner that still hasn't helped. Mayo Clinic has AMAZING doctors, so please don't write off the others because one is an inadequate listener.

I coul dnot disagree more with the other review. Dr. Schaffner is compassionate, kind, knowledgeable and goes above and beyond. If I write to him via the patient portal, he calls back to discuss the issue. He has helped treat and manage my issues in a timely manner and sent me to other great doctors as needed. I can't say enough good things about him. I travel 5 hours to be seen by him.

Extremely poor quality. He was very rude, arrogant, combative and downright nasty. He said things like,oh you could have hurt a nerve by sneezing or coughing,..clearly a failed diagnosis. I can't stress how poor this dr is. He had his mind made up when I walked in, didn't listen to me for more than 10 seconds. Please don't waste your time and money if you have a serious GI condition. Worse Dr I've been to in thirty years. MAYO is a complete failure and this man is horrible.
