Dr Bruce was very thorough when explaining the process and what to expect. He made me very comfortable with what was going to happen.

Dr. Bruce helped my husband 7 years ago to gain a healthier life. Now it’s my turn. The staff and Dr. Bruce have been fabulous helping me out with getting my my journey started.

Dr Jon Bruce is an amazing doctor. The care he provided my husband was by far above and beyond. He called me with results as they were showing up in MyChart. We never felt rushed when he did rounds. He took his time and explained everything. If I could change one thing it would be that he wasn’t a surgeon and was our regular doctor because you do not receive care like he provides anywhere else . If you decide to have bariatric surgery look no further. You have found the best.

If you're struggling with your weight and tired of seeing numerous doctors who think you sit on a couch eating bon bons all day. If you need someone to listen to you, someone who can explain what's going on in your body, someone who is patient, kind, non judgmental, someone who will give you the tools and information you need to get started before you ever lay eyes on him, someone who's professional, efficient and has excellent bedside manner.. look no farther. Dr. Bruce is my savior. I'll forever be indebted to him for the life he gave me back.

Dr. Bruce performed BPD with DS on both my daughter and I and the results have been remarkable. My daughter, in her mid thirties with two lovely children, has lost 125 lbs (90% of her excess weight) over a year and kept it off for a year. I have lost 115 lbs (about 85% of my excess weight) over a year and have kept it off for going on 7 months. Dr. Bruce’s comment, at least to me, is that 10 to 14 years have been added to my life. My daughter did not have insurance coverage for this surgery so I offered to pay the incredibly-reduced amount he estimated (about the amount of a decent used car). I believe that Dr. Bruce is more interested in helping people than squeezing for profit. And he has a reputation for these type of successful results. Great personality as well. Highly, highly recommend!!

After trying on my own to loose weight and failing, joint pain led me to my ortho doctor, he referred me to Dr. Bruce for weight loss surgery or to discuss if it would be a good choice for me. I met Dr. Bruce and the staff and immediately felt at ease. All questions were answered, they informed me of everything, help with insurance. Dr. Bruce and his staff never made me feel ashamed of being overweight, they only wanted to help me. After surgery the support continued, even when I gained some weight back (about 15 pounds). They supported me every step and supported me and still do. I am three years out, I was at my goal weight, but like I stated, a few slipped back on, my fault. I am on the right track to loose those pounds.

I have never experienced a more pleasant experience as I have with Dr. Bruce. I literally feel as if I am his only patient due to the treatment I received from him and the incredible staff at WakeMed. His care, concern and knowledge are #1!

After being given the runaround from another bariatric group that continued to dismiss my urgent medical need, I got an initial appointment with Dr. Bruce. Immediately, I felt less anxious when he reviewed my history of lung abscesses and aspiration pneumonia from GERD, and said, "You should have been given this surgery months ago." My surgery was September 12, 2019, less than a month after my meeting with him, and I haven't had one episode of GERD since. Apparently, a surgery I had a decade ago was not done properly, but Dr. Bruce fixed the badly done former surgery and revised it. I was in recovery in record time and got to go home 24 hours later. Now, just a few days after surgery, I'm extremely satisfied with my care, Dr. Bruce's ability to relate to others and NOT be condescending and dismissive like my former medical group. I'm healing, I feel great, and no GERD! His office has already made my follow-up visits. I highly recommend Dr. Bruce and his staff!

Compassionate and 100% Competent.....that is Dr. Jon Bruce! Having been diagnosed with a para esophageal hernia, I was referred to Dr. Bruce for surgery. I could not be more pleased with his skills and his post-surgical visits during my hospitalization. His detailed explanation of what he found during the surgery and his kind ways leaves me feeling completely honored to have him for a surgeon!

From the starting point in my adventures in surgery, Dr Bruce was always in my corner. I had an unusual case. He took it on without any background medial records. Dr. Bruce is a top notch doctor, i had my gastric sleeve with him last year and he is amazing. Very patient and would listen to all your questions and give you detailed answers to all of your concerns. His bed side manners are also very good and he has a great team to assist the patients with any inquiries. Not to mention the good service they offer for a year after the surgery..I cannot thank dr Bruce enough for the change he made to my life.. i am new person now.

I had my surgery in May of 2015. I was on various diabetic meds including insulin and I was getting worse and less healthy. I had the surgery where the attachment of my small intestine to my stomach was moved for less carb absorption and a large part of my stomach was also removed. Lost 50 lbs and no more meds. Feel and look so much better. They also found the beginnings of GIST stomach cancer and removed it which saved my life. Really nice to wear size 32 waist again. Best decision PAUL HOLLAR

Even though he was busy and trying to catch up on his full rooms of patients I felt he still listened and took an interest in my health. I was emotional during my visit and get gave me a hug...that sealed,the deal with me.
