Insurance patients should not expect better than bare minimum. I have many large facial moles. One concerned my derm but was in a tricky spot so she sent me to Dr. Fugo to remove it. He inappropriately greeted me with "you only get one freebie." After making the incision he tried to yank the mole out of my lip for far too long (left/right/up/down repeatedly, like he was trying to land a fish) before finally giving up and snipping it off. I received no guidance on pain or swelling, just how long to leave the steri-strips on for and to call the office with problems. I got charged the full amount and, when I objected, was told "oh right, you're the insurance patient" (clearly uncommon). It's been two years now and the scar is bad (strangers have even asked how I got it), but the worst part is the puckered lump 1/2" above the scar where the stitches were anchored. For its size and placement, I did not expect perfection, but I did expect better than this. Maybe if he hadn't been so rough.
