Disillusioned
I do not think that Dr. Winter is nearly as compassionate as he seems...Although he did respond to my initial concerns in a timely manner, he ultimately disappointed. I was simply "dismissed". Surgeons are generally an uncaring lot and want to address the main (surgical) issue but there are so many other issues that a patient must face.

Five stars is not enough to fully articulate what a remarkable doctor, surgeon, and compassionate person Dr. Winter is. In February 2021 I was told I had pancreatic cancer. The interstate search was on for the best surgeon I could find. I learned that Dr. Winter was one of the best, if not the best in the country. I contacted his office and he called me that evening after finishing surgery. He gave us his cell-phone number, and answered lots of our questions. On the day of surgery, he came to visit as I was being readied for a distal pancreatectomy-splen-ectomy. He visited each day, twice one day. How rare is that? The nurse who came for home visits was so impressed by my incision, she counted 28 staples and kept repeating, "This is just remarkable!" She told me if she ever needs surgery, Dr. Winter is her first choice. He has a wonderful nurse Christina, who in his words is"above awesome." If you can get Dr. Jordan Winter, you have found the best.

Dr. Winter demonstrated from the start an engaging, direct eye contact, calm, competent and conscientious approach to educating my wife and I of my condition and his recommended approach. His bed side manner and caring are the best I've experienced. He answers questions carefully and thought fully. I have a high degree of confidence in his practice, skills and ongoing follow ups including his staff which reflect and demonstrate the same caring attitude. For my challenging major surgery he remains consistent every step of the way to healing.

Dr. Winter is a truly exceptional surgeon and person. His knowledge and technical skills are at the top of the pancreatic surgeon ranks on a national level. Beyond that, he is an incredibly compassionate man who is dedicated to taking care of his patients, even long after surgery. He truly listens and always has been available to answer my questions, assess my situation, and discuss treatment options. Dr. Winter has performed two surgeries for my neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer (2013 & 2016) and has continued to assess my condition and advise on treatment approaches even after he moved from Philadelphia to Cleveland. He gave me his e-mail address and cell phone number and even years later, he is always there for me when I need advice on my case. This is absolutely unique for a top surgeon and we appreciate everything that Dr. Winter does beyond what words can express. For anyone who has to deal with pancreatic cancer, I recommend that you see Dr. Winter if at all possible.

We were referred to Dr. Winter by another physician after discovering a mass on my pancreas. Dr. Winter made sure we were well informed about the procedure to remove the mass, and even provided his personal cell phone number so that we could reach him at any time with any questions. When we returned for the post-op checkup, he was able to give us the best news possible, that the mass had been non-cancerous. I will never forget the happiness on his face as he told us. It was proof of how he cares about his patients.

We went to dr winter for a second opinion. In the first 15 minutes of speaking with him we had already gotten more info about my dads pancreatic cancer than we had received from our prior oncologist in 5 months. He explained and showed us each image making sure we understood all possible senerials, never taking any treatment or surgery off the table. We were never rushed, and he had constant checkups to see how my dad was doing. His knowledge comes thru as he speaks to you, and he always makes you feel like there is hope. He seems to genuinely care about the patients as if he is going thru the cancer with you. It was a tru blessing to find him.

Dr. Winter was recommended to me as someone who would give me the time I needed to discuss my condition. When we met, I found this not only to be true, but his patience and knowledge exceeded my expectations. He was warm, compassionate, and caring, traits not commonly found in surgeons.

I have consulted with Dr. Winter frequently. No matter how specific my questions, no matter what the issues, he is that rare doctor who creates the sense that time has stood still and nothing else matters at that moment except Dr. Winter being there for the patient. His range of knoweldge is encyclopedic. He takes a cautious approach in gathering the patient's history, making certain he has all details before giving his considered opinion, while enumerating all treatment options. He is unique.
