Dr. Joseph Boyd Jr, MD

Dr Boyd is a very caring physician. He treats the patient, not just the disease or ailments.

Dr Boyd has been, who we refer to as, our Family cardiologist since 1984, perhaps further back than that. He listens to “odd” symptoms and sticks with us til we get to the bottom of them! Always has a smile. Always soft spoken yet firm. He will scold you when it is needed, and is very cut and dry. Answers any and all questions from anyone in the room, including small children. Rarely does he run more than 15-20 minutes late for appointment times. A few years back, he came into the hospital on a Saturday morning, his day off and the first day of his prescheduled vacation time, to sit and talk to my grandmother after she refused a heart catheterizarion (sp?) out of fear. He calmed her down, explained the procedure in detail, and scrubbed up that very day rearranging his travel plans to save her life, as she was actively dying in front of us. He is irreplaceable for sure!

Dr Boyd is very knowledgeable. He found my husband needed a heart transplant. He has also been my doctor. He’s explains any questions you may have and any concerns or issues he gets to them right away. Highly recommend!

He has cared for my Father and Father in law and I am a patient as well. He takes the time to listen and explain his findings. Treatment has always been exactly what has been needed. His staff is professional and caring, which I consider important as well. If staff is rude and dismissive how do you trust your messages are getting to the doctor. Every staff member from scheduling to the nurses I have been in contact with have exceed my expectations. I highly recommend, he has cared for my family members for more than 30 years.

He got mad and bullied me about WHY I came back to the hospital after the being discharged for a stent placement. I was given a paper on discharge to return if I had chest pain. I had 4 hours of chest pain and spoke with on call Dr. Who told me to go back. Mr Boyd was loud and rude to me asking why I came back. He literally stuck his hand out and wanted to bet me there was nothing wrong!!! He acted like he was offended that I had returned. I was bullied by this Dr and would never go back to him.

Due to some unfavorable results with a CT Heart scan I was advised to see a cardiologist. After doing some research on my own and some conversations with some friends in the medical field Dr. Boyd’s name kept coming up. My initial visit was absolutely one of the best interactions with a Doctor in my life. From the time Dr. Boyd entered the room he made us feel like we had known him for years….he took his time explaining my test results and then advising a plan of action to find out what was causing my symptoms. The decision was made to move forward with a Arteriogram where he found a 90% blockage in one of my main arteries. He was able to place a stent and open the artery back up with full blood flow. I highly recommend Dr. Boyd to anyone looking for a cardiologist, he and his staff treated us like we were the only people in his office. I rate my experience with this group as one if not the best Doctor and nursing staff’s that I’ve ever met. Thank you all for getting me through this and getting me back to leading a normal life.

He has done a number of procedures on me and placed 11 of my 12 stents...I would probably not be alive today but for his expertise, as a couple of my blockages were above 95% (ONE was 98%) MOST in the 90-93% range.

A few years ago I saw Dr Boyd for a cardiology consult. After a very abbreviated consult, Doctor Boyd ordered a heart categorization. The result was the 4 major arteries had minimal blockage. Come back in a year! I told my wife that I just went thru a “cath factory”. Three months later while driving on an Interstate highway I lost sight in my RT eye. A clot from RT carotid artery 72% blocked went into my eye causing permanent blindness. A Dobbler Study would have identified the clot.

My first visit to Dr. Boyd was in 2008. I've had several procedures done and go for annual follow up visits. He is a confident and caring doctor. I would not want to see any other cardiologist. I highly recommend Dr. Boyd!
