After living in horrific pain for almost two years, I went to my primary care physician and asked to be referred. He was going to send me to yet another ortho doc in Pueblo. However, I asked him, "If your wife had this problem, who would you refer her to?". Without hesitation, he said Dr. Illig. From the moment I met Dr. Illig, I was impressed. He had me take off my shoes and within 1 minute, he knew what was wrong with me and how to fix it. After my surgery, I was able to stand up and be pain-free for the first time in over two years. It is a sad reality that if you seek help for back pain, especially in rural Colorado, the health care community has a tendency to think you are drug-seeking. I've seen the impact of the opioid crisis, so I avoid all narcotics. Despite that, I was still treated like a drug seeker. Dr. Illig, however, was very respectful of my views and worked with me on a narcotic-free rehabilitation plan. This was over ten pain-free years ago!

Unfortunately he retired a couple of years ago, but he was the Greatest!! I had back surgery with him in 1999 and 17 years later a different back surgery in 2016. I was in serious pain and using a walker for months while waiting for an appointment in 2016. After the surgery I immediately got out of bed and was able to walk without assistance, and had no pain. Unbelievable!

Dr. Illig was with my husband from March, 2017 in ER until he was released in September, 2017. My husband had a broken neck, C-2 and he had to heal naturally. Dr. Illig was with us all the way with constant follow-ups, instructions on what to expect next and constantly letting us know that things were proceeding as expected. We feel Dr. Illig saved my husband's life.

Worst experience of my life. Because of office politics, he denied even seeing me because 4 years ago I saw a different doctor in the office who saw me for 5 minutes and told me to deal with the pain as long as possible then come back to see them. He said I was awfully young as most people that have fusion surgery are much older. He said the risk was high and I would likely be partially disable because of limited mobility. Obviously disability is not something I wanted, so I left and dealt w

I'm a healthy 33 year old male who woke up 1 day with back pain. worst pain you could ever imagine. I could not work, sit, stand, or do anything but lay. Dr. Illig was the ONLY doctor who knew EXACTLY what my problem was from the 1st day I met with him. He was knowledgeable, kind and he educated me on all details. After 8 months I did the microdiscectomy that Dr. Illig preformed himself. I was (no kidding) instantly healed. I was in tears from the joy of being pain free. Dr. Illig is the BEST!!!

First it took me 2-1/2 months to see him the and he blew me off by sending me back to get my spine injected. Dr. Illig was extremely unprofessional when I saw him in follow up for my back pain, offended that I got a 2nd opinion from an orthopedic surgeon, he told me to just go see him then. I left his office crying and in pain. I would caution anyone from seeing him. (FYI he does not do fusions and this is what I needed) should have told me that on the 1st visit. would have saved time & $'s

My appointment time was 11:15 and I was called at 11:12 and waited maybe five minutes before the doctor came into the room. Wow I was so impressed the doctor took the time to explain everything to me in terms that I could understand even showing me in detail my X-rays. He was so through and friendly. Great experience.

I found this Dr. Illig time be condescending and very dismissive. He was like so many other doctors . He automatically assumed what he wanted about me. Which was I was looking for drugs even though I never asked for any. Plus he was more concerned with why I didn't go back to the surgeon I had before even though I explained I wanted a neurologist n not a orthopedic. Two fractures n ten herniated discs n he just dismissed me, he needs to retire.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Illig?
Dr. Illig has provided me with the highest level of care possible since my procedure in March 2008. He always takes sufficient time to listen carefully to me and asks questions specific to my treatment. He is very specific about follow-up procedures and what I should expect to experience instead of just leaving me to figure out if any post-surgery sensation is normal I would recommend Dr. Illig and his office staff without reservation.

The experience was excellent. Dr. Illig spends the proper amt of time with me and explains things to my satisfaction. I was encouraged to try at least one non-surgical procedure. I completed two sessions of steroid shots, with limited success. My condition will require a fairly simple surgical procedure, to prevent further nerve damage. Expecting and looking forward to a successful resolution soon.

I highly recommend Dr. Illig based on my personal experience. I get very thorough exams and MRI reviews, i.e.; (show & tell) so I got very good understanding of my issues plus a plan moving forward. Surgery is always his last resort!!!
