Dr. Joseph Whalen, MD

He is very good, very professional, great bedside Manner! He fixed what another doctor really had screwed up. He got me walking again, driving, living. I still have problems, but not from his work. I would allow this man to operate on me again. His staff did follow up and are very polite. The Mayo is the best!

He was rushed when he came in to see me. Even said he had a busy day and I was basically wasting his time. He gave me something to wear on my foot for a chipped bone on big toe (actually a previous injury). When I tried to tell him it was the toe next to it that really hurt, he ignored me. I was charged mucho $$$ for visit that lasted less than 5 minutes. I have gone to a different podiatrist weeks later to find out that the toe that I was trying to explain hurt is actually dislocated. Now to fix it I have to have surgery or live with pain. I would not see this doctor again or recommend him.

I've been going to Mayo for 15 years since my wife is a well respected nurse in the hospital for that time. I've been here for eye checkups, family doctor visits, pediatricians, herniated disc, asthma, and acid reflux. I tore my Achilles and setup an ortho appointment which was with Dr Whalen. The staff was friendly. The wait was very quick. I had no issues...until Dr Whalen came in. I was laying on a table while he picked up my leg and started twisting it and squeezing it aggressively. It was as if i was a cadaver on the table. He did not warn me or apologize because he did not care or notice that i was in a lot of pain. I was grasping the side of the table and holding my breath. The pain he caused was as bad as it was the day of the tear. He proceeded to tell me the timeline of recovery and next steps and said it all within 15 seconds. I asked him to repeat it because i could not retain all that info at once. He became agitated and with a condescending tone repeated the informatio

Dr. Joseph Whalen is probably the worst doctor I've ever been to in my life. Not only was he rude, but he really did not care about my condition and made me feel like I was just another number. His diagnosis is terrible, he did not explain my X-ray, and did not want to see me again after the appointment. Showing me he does not care what happens to me despite the fact I am dealing with severe amount of pain and needing help. Will never recommend, will never return.

After having had a tennis injury, I unfortunately went to a podiatrist in St. Augustine who misdiagnosed it. Months later, I was referred to Dr. Whalen at Mayo. If only I had gone to see him earlier. Dr. Whalen operated on my foot in December and has continued to give me wonderful post operative care. Dr. Whalen is highly regarded in his field as well as being very kind and compassionate. He is humble and tender hearted and I highly recommend him.

I found him to be very personable and I highly recommend him and his staff. In a time when I and my family were extremely stressed out he was very calm and answered all of our questions. Put it this way, my husband liked him and he doesn't like anyone!
