Dr. Joshua Sussal, MD

Dr Sussal seemed very knowledgeable about mental health and I especially appreciate that he is a good listener.

e exhibited no understanding of the concept of consent. In this meeting NO did not mean NO, and thats a huge red flag for any prospective patient and the main reason I leave this review. I saw Joshua Sussal for an "independent" medical review in relation to my mental health short term disability claim. During the interview he repeatedly inferred that Transgender/NonBinary people deserve to be harassed for who they are. When I stated multiple times that I wasn't comfortable with this line of 'questioning' he then proceeded to harass (via sealioning) me with vague and speculative questions that had no bearing or relevance to the interview. I would not recommend this individual for those who are LGBTQ, POC, or member of any other marginalized group or those who have past consent and/or harassment related traumas.

I have been referring my patients to Dr. Sussal and sending my own family to Dr. Sussal for over 10 years. He is direct, honest, open and extremely bright with a keen sense of his patients needs. Even through the pandemic , he has come into his offices to help some of my referrals obtain care via arranging for emergency services to assure they did not have to go to the ER , but could be admitted. As a provider, there is a deep appreciation for the time, energy, dedication and professionalism Dr. Sussal displays. If you can get an appointment, you will be well taken care of and fortunate as he is affordable as well.

With all the previous providers I had for my child, no one was able to see that they were suffering with learning problems which we later found out was due to a genetic disease my family has. This was found after Dr. Sussal got my child tested and then had myself and their father tested . My child felt for the first time validated and now we have to change somethings to help them, but my child no longer feels it is their fault.

Knowledgeable, respectful, kind and understood my situation while helping me to understand my situation.

I have been under Dr. Sussal's care for six years now. He has helped me through my many ups and downs. He adjusts scheduling times according to what my needs have been. I've felt welcome to ask for more time when I needed it. He's met with me in person most of the time, but we have also talked over the phone, through email, and now doing tele-health video. He set me up with a perfect psychologist. I have been able to reduce my medications and handle situations with more confidence. I will continue to recommend him.

Overall I am very disappointed with my experience with this psychiatry practice. Dr. Sussal was very accommodating and empathetic towards my isssues, but trying to get in touch with someone to refill a prescription was worse than pulling teeth. I never once called and talked to a receptionist directly. I was prompted to leave a message, which would go unanswered sometimes for up to a week. Once I had to email the firms manager directly to schedule an appointment.

After a miserable experience with one of Brooklane's doctors for my son we were lucky enough to find Dr. Sussal. He has been wonderful! Just a note - he is direct and to the point which I like. He doesn't sugarcoat things.

This doctor was reported by me to the Maryland Board of Physicians. I accused him of abandoning patients, something prohibited by their Code of Ethics. This doctor and assistants would not answer my numerous phone calls. In my case I suspect that he did not want to work with me. What a caring, professional doctor is supposed to do is to NOTIFY the patient that he no longer will work with him/her and RECOMMEND ANOTHER DOCTOR. MD Board told me that they gave him recommendations.

I love dr sussal hes honest and truthful he cares about you as a person i couldn't be happier i actually found a dr who cares about me .very satisfied

Best Psychiatrist I have ever visited. Dr Sussal listens and truly cares about his patients. He tailors treatment for each patient specific to their symptoms and history of previous medication use. I will always have Dr Sussal as my psychiatrist. I trust his decisions and plan of care.

Dr Sussal is a disgrace the psychiatry

Dr. Sussal himself is very kind and helpful. His staff however, are the most unprofessional I have ever encountered! Don't bother calling they do not answer the phone or call back. The only way I got someone to contact me, after leaving messages everyday for a week, was to email Dr. Sussal himself (he prefers you go through his assistant) and him making them call me back. Unfortunately, a person's staff reflects on the boss.

Horrible!!! I have been trying for 5 days to get someone to communicate with me. Tiffany his assistant send incomplete emails and never solves the problems/issues at hand. My son has gone 5 days without meds because they Dr will only fill a 30 day supply until his next appointment which is 5/5 and this was an urgent request. the insurance only covers 90 day supplies and I don't have $892 to pay for the 30 day supply. THIS IS IMPACTING MY SONS HEALTH AND WELFARE!!!!!

I had over 3 appts with dr sussal and did not see him any of these times his office staff do not know what they are doing now I am out of meds and have tried for over 3 weeks to get them from him the worst office I have ever been to I am also going to report the office to the state and other outlets

Hey, if you need a psychiatrist, I'm going to tell you where not to go. Do not go to Dr. Sussal's office in Greenbelt, MD. I have been trying to get an appointment just for medication management for over a month. They have not returned my calls or emails! If I go out and strangle someone, it's because I have no meds

Dr. Sussal is outstanding and a very caring individual. You get the time you need and his advice which is always helpful and honest. You may have to wait a while on your appointmemt date when you arrive but it is worth it. The one drawback is he has a number of offices now and may be spreading himself too thin between them.

To his credit, he saw me within 2 days of contacting him because I was in a very bad state of depression and needed professional help. He was able to stabilize me. However, our personalities clashed and I found his no nonsense approach to be unhelpful when I was in such a fragile emotional state. I took a lot of his comments very hard and found them hurtful. I am probably in the minority when it comes to the all-American pick yourself up and get going approach, though. Left after 6 months.
