My experience with Dr. Hernandez-Maldonado and his group was exceptional. Very clear and direct in its evaluation and execution. Very knowledgable and showed a lot of empathy in the process. I got my surgery done more than 25 years ago to replace my pulmonary valve and I will use his service again next time.

Dr Hernandez-Maldonado has very poor communication skills and terrible bedside manner. When the patient or family tried to ask questions for clarification of the diagnosis or plan he became outright rude and defensive. This doctor is extremely pompous and egotistical and made all of us in the room feel very uncomfortable. After two visits, we still did not have my step father’s diagnosis and prognosis clearly explained to us. The PA, Daniel, was very helpful as he stayed back to improve on the communication and was clearly embarrassed by the doctor’s behavior.

Very competent, very experienced and knowledgeable, totally a world class cardiac surgeon. Presbyterian Hospital -Albuqurque shoud be extremely proud to have Dr. Hernandez as one of its cardiac-thoracic surgeons. I completely recommend him to any patient who needs cardiac surgery. Wonderful follow-up. Absolutely no lingering problems. How lucky I was to have had Dr. Hernandez do my heart valve replacement surgery.

This provider was not family friendly to us. When trying to figure out if it was ok to drive my mom to my home (8 hours away) to take care of her post d/c. He said no and she will need 24/7 care for a month. I said I won't be able to take a month off of work. His exact words were "That's a family problem" He then told me he was scheduling the surgery in May (2 months from this appointment). I asked for it not to be a certain week and he was rude. He ended up scheduling it the week I can't help!
