She was condescending, smug, and made me feel absolutely awful about myself. She had a penchant for polypharmacy and ignored obvious signs of OCD in favor of convincing me that I was bipolar (I am no longer diagnosed as such). I have internalized so much self-loathing, doubt, and fear from that woman. My family is devastated and my life is beyond difficult as an adult. Some disorders she diagnosed me with over the span of a few minutes with Cosmopolitan-quiz like interviews. She never explained her reasoning for a diagnosis and was evasive when asked outright. (One 15-minute diagnosis was ADHD. I asked her "do I really have this?" Her response: "You fit criteria for it.") Now, people my age stay up til 4 am, have snowball fights at 5 o clock in the morning, live life and love it. Meanwhile, I'm stuck turning in at 9 pm because any later and my brain spams me with thoughts about going manic and crazy. This ironically leads to regular insomnia. She's retired now, but I had to speak out.
